JUSTICE FOR A CHILD VICTIM

A Gwinnett County jury found Caleb Jamal Burton, 25, guilty of aggravated s*xual battery, aggravated child molestation, and six counts of child molestation for s*xually abusing a 15-year-old girl in 2021, when he was 19.

Burton was sentenced to 30 years, with 25 years to serve in prison.

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office remains committed to protecting children, supporting victims, and holding offenders accountable for crimes committed against the most vulnerable members of our community.

JUSTICE & ACCOUNTABILITY

A Gwinnett County jury found Jermaine Dondi Rimson guilty of felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit a robbery for the July 19, 2022, murder of 21-year-old Abel Castellanos.

Rimson, who was 17 at the time of the crime and is now 21, was sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years.

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office remains committed to pursuing justice for victims, holding violent offenders accountable and helping keep our community safe.

LIFE SENTENCE IN CHILD MOLESTATION CASE

A Gwinnett County jury found Alejandro Rangel, 59, guilty of aggravated child molestation, aggravated s*xual battery and five counts of child molestation for s*xually abusing a teenager over a two-month period in 2024.

Rangel was sentenced to life in prison plus one year of probation.

FENTANYL DEALER SENTENCED TO 40 YEARS

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office continues to hold drug dealers accountable when their actions have deadly consequences.

Drolvin Calix-Rodriguez, 24, pled guilty to violating Georgia’s RICO Act and multiple charges, including two counts of involuntary manslaughter and distribution of fentanyl, in connection with the 2023 drug overdose deaths of 17-year-old Rodrigo Floriano-Mayen and 16-year-old Julia Zirangua.

Calix-Rodriguez was sentenced to 40 years, with 35 years to serve in prison.

Fentanyl destroys lives and families. Our office remains committed to working with law enforcement to prosecute those who distribute deadly drugs in Gwinnett County and hold them accountable.

Protecting children and holding offenders accountable requires more than exposing a suspected predator. It requires building a case that can hold up in court.

Civilian “predator-catching” efforts can unintentionally alert suspects, compromise evidence, interfere with police investigations and create legal challenges that make prosecution more difficult.

Protect children. Protect the case.

If you suspect child exploitation, report it to law enforcement and allow trained investigators to build the case.

PROTECTING CHILDREN. PURSUING JUSTICE.

James Tyler Turner, 37, pleaded guilty to aggravated child molestation, child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes after molesting a child over the course of approximately two years.

Turner was sentenced to 30 years, with 20 years to serve in prison, and must register as a s*x offender for life.

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office remains committed to protecting children, seeking justice for victims and holding offenders accountable.

Today, the Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office joins our nation in solemn remembrance of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we honor the victims, the first responders who ran toward danger, the survivors, and the countless families forever changed by that day.

We also remember the courage, compassion and unity that brought Americans together in the days that followed.

MURDER CONVICTION | LIFE + 5 YEARS

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office has secured a murder conviction in the September 2023 shooting death of 28-year-old Dareese Amir Ellis.

Jay Dante Crump, 24, was found guilty of malice murder and possession of a fi***rm during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to life in prison plus five years.
