Happy Father’s Day from Decatur County Emergency Management! 💙💛

Today we’re thinking about all the fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, bonus dads, father figures, and the men who simply show up when it matters most.

Now, let’s be honest… Mother’s Day usually comes with flowers, brunch, gifts, maybe a whole weekend celebration. Father’s Day? Dad might get a card, a new pair of socks, and the honor of grilling his own supper. 😂

But that’s what dads do.

They fix things with tools, duct tape, or confidence that may or may not be justified. They give advice whether you asked for it or not. They teach right from wrong, remind you to check your oil, tell the same jokes every year, and somehow make “because I said so” sound like a complete emergency plan.

To all the dads out there who work hard, protect their families, support their kids, serve their communities, and keep showing up day after day — thank you.

Whether you’re in law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, public service, farming, teaching, coaching, or just being the steady hand your family counts on, today is for you.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who may not ask for much, but deserve a whole lot more than just a card.

Enjoy your day, Dad — and yes, we hope someone else lets you sit down while they run the grill for once. 😄

🚨 FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT 🚨
Decatur County Emergency Management

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flood Watch for portions of southern Iowa, including our area.

📅 Timing: Late tonight through Sunday evening
⏰ Expires: Sunday, June 21 at 7:00 PM CDT

Heavy rainfall is possible, with widespread amounts of 2 inches or more and locally higher amounts up to 4 inches possible.

Excessive runoff may lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations.

Please remember:

✅ Stay weather aware
✅ Never drive through flooded roadways
✅ Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions
✅ Monitor trusted weather sources for updates

..NWS Damage Survey for June 11th Tornado and Damaging Wind Event...
Overview...

An NWS Storm Survey has determined that an EF-2 tornado occurred in Adams County
during the early morning hours of June 11th.

Additional areas were also surveyed and examined over portions of southern and central
Iowa. It was determined that intense straight line winds from 80 to 100 mph,
associated with bowing segments in the squall line produced the significant tree, structural,
and crop damage. Some of the hardest hit corridors from these straight line winds included:

- western Adams County (including Corning)
- southern Union, northern Ringgold, southern Clarke, and northern Decatur Counties (intense
straight line winds and wind driven hail)
- central Dallas County

Some locations continue to be evaluated additional updates are possible.

⚠️ Severe Thunderstorm Warning – Decatur & Ringgold Counties ⚠️
Until 11:45 AM CDT (Saturday, June 13, 2026)

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for western Decatur County and Ringgold County.

Storm Details:

* Moving east at 40 mph
* Hazards:
🌬️ Wind gusts up to 60 mph
🧊 Quarter-size hail
* Threats: Possible damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees

Areas Impacted Include:
Lamoni, Mount Ayr, Diagonal, Kellerton, Grand River, Davis City, Decatur, Redding, Ellston, Benton, Maloy, Delphos, Beaconsfield, and surrounding areas.

Travel Alert:
This includes Interstate 35 between mile markers 1–20.

Safety Reminder:
Move indoors to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows until the storm passes.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch 326 is in effect until 3:00 PM CDT this afternoon for parts of southern Iowa, including Decatur County and 17 other counties.

Main threats include:
⚠️ Damaging wind gusts up to 70 MPH possible
⚠️ Large hail up to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

The watch covers counties in South Central, Southeast, and Southwest Iowa, including communities such as Leon, Lamoni, Osceola, Chariton, Centerville, Ottumwa, Indianola, Knoxville, Mount Ayr, Creston, Winterset, and Atlantic.

Reminder: A watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms to develop. Stay weather aware, keep alerts on, and be prepared to take shelter if warnings are issued.
