On behalf of the Hemlock Farms Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chaplains, I would like to extend my thanks and gratitude to all those who assisted in making the service so meaningful. The Hemlock Farms Community Association (HFCA) staff and support groups went above and beyond in the planning and presenting, dealing with inclement weather, switching venues, and set up.
I would further like to extend my thanks to all those who participated, the Knights of Columbus and Cub Scout Pack 007. The two of you added so much dignity, and the involvement of our younger people added strength of purpose for those who attended. I would also like to add an extra gesture of appreciation to our keynote speaker, Commander Harry Waidelich, USN, Retired, for his words, suggesting to us that we channel our remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice as a day of celebration of their dedication and commitment, not as a day of sadness. As always, Pat Olhman and Linda Snow’s stewardship of the Deanery Choir elevated our service, and we are blessed in our community to have them. Thank you to our community leaders for your presence as well.
Lastly, I would like to thank the residents of Hemlock Farms who came out on a very challenging weather day to not only make the service so meaningful but also one of the highest attended Memorial Day services of recent memory.
Memorial Day, unlike other national holidays such as Presidents Day, Thanksgiving, Veterans Day, or Independence Day, reminds us of the values of the ultimate sacrifice. It reminds us that it is incumbent upon us to recognize those who sacrificed themselves for those freedoms. May the Lord continue to bless our community and our country.
