Excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the new Starbucks on Woodman Avenue in Arleta!

For years, this property sat vacant, but by coordinating with City departments to address permitting and power needs, we turned a long-standing eyesore into a vibrant business and community asset. This new drive-through brings fresh energy, investment, and a convenient spot for our Arleta residents and commuters.

A special thank you to our local constituents working at this branch. Your hard work and friendly service are what truly make this space welcoming for our community! Thank you as well to the community leaders, LAPD, Starbucks team, property management, and CD6 staff who joined us today. I was proud to present a Certificate of Recognition to officially welcome Starbucks as a new neighbor committed to supporting our local families and community initiatives!

🚆 The Valley is moving forward, and our community organizations should be connected to the opportunities ahead.

Today, we brought the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority team to the Van Nuys Civic Center to meet face to face with Valley-based community organizations. They learned about available resources, asked questions directly and, most importantly, made connections to Metro’s countywide network of partners.

As major transportation projects transform the Valley, I want to make sure the organizations serving our neighbors have a seat at the table and the connections they need to help our communities thrive. 🚉

I am excited to invite all of our Council District 6 residents and families to a fun-filled morning dedicated to wellness, entertainment, and community resources.

Celebrating the vibrant intersection of art, culture, and community at today’s press conference and exhibition opening for Corazón de Los Ángeles at Los Angeles City Hall.

Thank you to (AltaMed Health Services) AltaMed Health Services, the Department of Cultural Affairs (LA Dept of Cultural Affairs), and featured artist Danie Cansino (Danie Cansino) for bringing generations of Chicano and Chicana artistic expression into the heart of our city for Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month. Meet Matilda A2294924 and Olivia A2284477, two sweet girls who recently participated in Adventure Buddy Day!

Matilda is a 1.5-year-old spayed female weighing 92 lbs. Matilda is a lovely girl who takes treats gently, knows her sit command, has done well in playgroups with other dogs, and appears to be potty trained!

Olivia is a 3-year-old spayed female weighing 54 lbs. Olivia is a friendly, low-energy girl who knows her sit command, takes treats gently, walks nicely on a leash, has done well in playgroups with other dogs, and enjoys playing with squeaky toys!

Both dogs are available for adoption at our East Valley Center.

In an effort to help the animals in LA City shelters find loving homes, The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation is sponsoring the Big Dogs and Meow-Meows Adoption event from September 1-30, 2026 at all six LA Animal Services Centers. During the monthlong adoption event, adoption fees for dogs 40 lbs and over are $51 (does not include $20 dog license fee for LA City residents), and adoption fees for cats a year old and older are $12.50.

Pets adopted from LA Animal Services join their new families already spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adopters also receive a Petco flyer with discounts to help make their pet adoption a success, and a VCA Healthy Start Certificate, which provides up to $250 of follow up veterinary care within the first 14 days of adoption. In addition, dogs are eligible for free dog training classes with Paws for Life K9 Rescue at their People & Pet Innovation Center in Mission Hills, CA. The six LA Animal Services Centers are open Tuesday through Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 5pm. Centers are closed Mondays and City-observed holidays. For more information about LA Animal Services, visit: laanimalservices.com.

We’re accelerating affordable housing and building a healthier Los Angeles.

Today, I joined Mayor Karen Bass to highlight our major progress: LA is building affordable housing at more than 4x the rate of the prior administration (2,858 units/year vs. 685).

To keep that momentum going, yesterday I led the City Council to approve over $400 million via the Homes for LA NOFA (nearly 70% from Measure ULA) to build new homes, preserve existing stock, and stabilize developments.
As Housing Committee Chair, I know stable housing drives public health. By centering Equity, Inclusion, and Access, we are turning these investments into results:
⚖️ Equity: Directing vital resources where they’re needed most.
🤝 Inclusion: Building welcoming communities for every family.
🔑 Access: Keeping Angelenos rooted in the neighborhoods they love.
The need is clear. Now, it’s about delivering.

As of today, September 22, 2026, the City of Los Angeles has officially declared a State of Emergency in response to the approaching El Niño phenomenon. 

Here is what you need to know to keep your family and property safe:
The Threat: Severe weather conditions are expected to hit the region shortly. 
Take Action: The city is urging all residents to PREPARE NOW. Please review your family’s emergency plan, secure outdoor items, and gather essential supplies. 

City Resources: For non-emergency municipal services, structural damage reporting, or local information, remember to use MyLA 311.

🚨 STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED FOR LOS ANGELES 🚨

Ahead of severe El Niño storms on September 22, 2026, a State of Emergency has been issued for Los Angeles. Residents should prepare for possible urban flooding, mudslides, strong winds, and power outages. 

Take Action Now:
Pick up free sandbags at your nearest fire department. 
Clear your gutters and secure any loose outdoor objects. 
Avoid unnecessary travel—and remember: Turn around, don’t drown. 
The city is actively preparing by clearing storm drains, reinforcing hillsides, and positioning emergency responders. Stay informed and report issues using NotifyLA or MyLA311. Stay safe, LA! 🌧️⚠️
