National Night Out started back in 1984 with a simple idea. One night a year, we step out of our houses, off our phones, and onto our own streets to meet the neighbors and the people who serve us.

That simple idea carries a lot of weight. Public safety works best when trust gets built before anyone ever needs to call for help. When we know the folks next door, and we know the faces of the officers and firefighters who show up when something goes wrong, the whole community gets stronger for it. That is not a slogan. That is just how neighborhoods actually hold together.

I was proud to be out there with District 5 residents, the Montebello Police Department, our Fire Chief, and neighbors who took the time to show up and be part of it. Nights like this are what civic engagement really looks like. Not a meeting, not a mailer, just people on a warm evening deciding to know each other a little better.

In July, together we raised $2,434 toward our $5,000 goal. I want to be transparent about that number, the good and the gap, because that is exactly the kind of representation I am running to give you. You deserve to see where things stand, always.

Here is some perspective. Just getting on the ballot cost $625. Every dollar you give does real work in a race like this.

We are carrying the same $5,000 goal into August, and we can close it with the many, not the money. If you have not chipped in yet, this is the moment. $5 buys a stack of door hangers. $10 helps us reach another block. $20 keeps a volunteer stocked for a shift. $50 puts literature in hundreds of hands.
