What a day for us at YWCA Greater Los Angeles!

We recently held our annual Staff Summit, bringing together over 100 team members from across our sites.

The day opened with organizational updates from CEO Lori Carmona, our Head of Programs, and our Chief Development Officer, setting a clear vision for the road ahead. We cheered on our colleagues during milestone work anniversary celebrations. And we wrapped the day with an interactive Elevator Pitch workshop led by the dynamic Orlando Bishop.

Thank you to our incredible planning committee for putting together such a special day, and thank you to our gracious hosts at the Braille Institute. It was the perfect space for our team to connect.

We're connected, aligned, and renewed in our commitments to the communities we serve. 🧡

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Deserie Rodriguez! 🎉

On May 29th, we gathered at our Angeles Mesa Center for our annual Teacher of the Year Banquet to honor our outstanding educators across our empowerment centers. We are so proud to recognize Deserie as the Teacher of the Year for our Supervisor Gloria Molina Empowerment Center.

Over the years, Deserie has demonstrated tremendous growth as an educator and a leader, and this recognition is well-deserved.

Thank you, Deserie, for everything you bring to our children and families every single day. We are beyond lucky to have you!

Family Fun Day officially arrived at our Angeles Mesa Empowerment Center!

Almost 140 families joined us for a day of games, face painting, arts and crafts, food, and of course, fun! The highlight of the day was watching the children perform the YWCA and 4Cs song written by Adam, our Social-Emotional Learning Coach.

We're already looking forward to next year's! 🎉

Today, we commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a beacon of hope and a testament to what’s possible when people unite with courage and purpose. This landmark legislation confronted systemic racism, segregation, and discrimination, moving our nation closer to the promise that every person deserves justice, peace, and dignity.

But this anniversary is not only a moment of reflection — it's a call to action. As civil rights protections face ongoing threats, we are reminded that the work is far from finished. Each generation must rise to defend and expand these hard-won freedoms.

Its legacy continues to shape our world, and it calls us to keep moving forward, working together to build a more just and equitable future for all.
