Every day, big data is making it possible for local planners to turn data into actionable plans with insights into traffic patterns that weren’t possible even five years ago. But we have a long way to go to standardize big data practices in transportation planning processes.

S**G today published five new white papers that showcase how big data analytics can support local mobility planning in Southern California. S**G was in attendance at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood for Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator’s (LACI) Road to 2028 Summit. S**G Regional Council Past President Cindy Allen and Second Vice President Patricia Lock Dawson joined regional leaders to talk transportation, sustainability, and workforce development ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. S**G Chief Government and Public Affairs Officer Javiera Cartagena also participated in the event.

Key themes from the summit included transit and electrification as the backbone of a “green games”; clean energy pathways, from electric vehicle charging infrastructure to workforce training with local community colleges; catalyzing investment in communities, building on LACI’s $600 million raised toward its $1 billion goal; and using the LA28 Games as a catalyst to showcase a different side of Southern California— accessible transit, clean air, and a citywide, community-driven games experience.

Help shape community events for the LA28 Games. S**G is circulating the Community Hubs for Mega-Events Needs Assessment Survey to learn how local jurisdictions are planning fan zones and community hubs for the LA28 Games.

As part of S**G’s Community Hubs Toolkit and Activation Program, survey responses will inform funding opportunities and technical assistance by identifying the support jurisdictions need most to plan, implement, and activate fan zones and community hubs during the LA28 Games. The program will also test concepts through local activations and share lessons learned to help communities prepare.
