The Planning for Main Streets project is a regional effort led by S**G to reimagine state highway corridors that double as community main streets—such as State Route 1 in Lomita. Your feedback will help inform safety, mobility, and placemaking improvements along the corridor.

The pop-up will provide information about the project and proposed improvements along the specific corridor in that area. The project team will be available to hear questions, comments, and ideas. Participants can stop by the pop-up at any time during the event. S**G joined transportation leaders from across the industry for a conversation about how innovative partnerships can help deliver infrastructure and reconnect communities.

Executive Director Kome Ajise joined the Reconnecting Communities Institute’s “P3s in Practice” panel, where the Presidio Parkway project served as a real-world example of a public-private partnership in action.

The discussion highlighted the value of exploring different approaches to delivering complex transportation projects, especially as communities navigate changing needs and uncertainty.

S**G Executive Director Kome Ajise presented to the City of Pico Rivera - Government City Council on Tuesday, Sept. 22, highlighting regional planning, funding, and partnership opportunities available to local communities.

The presentation included a S**G 101 introduction, an overview of the Connect SoCal vision and funding priorities, and examples of S**G’s direct work with the city, including a $411,000 Regional Active Transportation Program award that funded Pico Rivera’s Active Transportation Master Plan, a Go Human partnership with the city’s World Spirit Festival, and the city’s participation in a S**G Regional 2028 Games Transportation Demand Management forum.

We thank S**G Regional Council Member Andrew Lara for inviting us to showcase the agency’s regional work to the city council and city staff.

Join S**G for a Toolbox Tuesday session on Oct. 27 featuring a comprehensive overview of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, landmark federal housing legislation that became law on July 11.

S**G’s federal lobbyist, Leslie Pollner, will explain the bill’s main points, including changes to housing, transportation, infrastructure, and land use policies to support new housing development and reduce barriers to housing production, transportation planning, and infrastructure investment.

Applications are now open for S**G’s Future Leaders Initiative, a six-month civic leadership program that helps emerging leaders build professional skills, make connections, and gain hands-on experience in regional planning and civic decision-making.

Participants will engage with planning experts and elected officials, take part in workshops and site visits, collaborate with peers, and receive a $500 stipend.

No prior experience is required. Applications are due Oct. 27 at 5 p.m.

To help kick off the process, S**G is surveying member jurisdictions for more information about local planning and housing conditions. S**G will use the information collected to support the development of a proposed methodology for the 7th Cycle of the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) process.
