Happy “Dolly Parton Day”! Earlier this month, Governor Newsom signed a bill establishing September 25 as Dolly Parton Day in honor of her beloved song “9 to 5.”

In 1985, I was fortunate to be on the team defending Dolly in a copyright lawsuit involving the song. I will always remember the kindness and support she showed me, particularly as a young lawyer who was just starting out in the field. On Dolly Parton Day, may we celebrate, not only her extraordinary talent, but also the kindness and generosity that has made her so beloved.
