Today marked my final budget cycle as First District Supervisor, as the Board of Supervisors approved a supplemental budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27.
 
I’m proud that this budget includes a $3.9 billion increase from the budget adopted in June and preserves investments in programs that matter to our communities. That includes $1.8 million for legal representation for individuals at risk of deportation and $1.5 million for the County’s Business Interruption Fund to help small businesses recover and stay open.
 
While Los Angeles County continues to face fiscal challenges, our commitment to serving residents remains unchanged. As families, workers and small businesses navigate uncertain times, I know the County will continue working to ensure they have access to the support and resources they need.

I was honored to join the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association (Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association) for its annual Fish Fry Potluck in Hacienda Heights.

Thank you to President Diane Park, the LACAAEA Board and members for hosting a wonderful celebration where County employees and families could come together, share traditions and celebrate their cultures.

Over my 12 years on the Board of Supervisors, I have seen LACAAEA grow as a strong voice for Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander employees and an important part of our County family.

Honored to join the Comité Mexicano Cívico Patriótico and the Mexican Consulate today to kick off the countdown to the 80th East LA Mexican Independence Day Parade. For eight decades, this parade has been a proud East LA tradition, bringing families and generations together to celebrate Mexican heritage, culture and the history that connects us. It is a celebration of the community’s roots, resilience and contributions to Los Angeles County. Come celebrate with us this Sunday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m. The parade will be followed by a festival with live music, cultural performances, vendors, community organizations, more than 25 County departments, a pet wellness fair and more. Twenty-five years later, I still remember the morning of September 11. I was in my congressional office in Washington, D.C., when we were told to evacuate. Outside, I could see smoke rising from the Pentagon. There was confusion everywhere, and none of us knew what was happening or what would happen next. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives that day. Families lost parents, children, spouses, siblings and friends.
 
Today, there are young Americans who were not yet born when September 11 happened. They have grown up hearing about that day from their parents, teachers and those who experienced it firsthand. As time passes, we have a responsibility to make sure they know what happened and never lose sight of the lives that were taken.
 
We honor those we lost, the families who continue to live with that loss, and the first responders and service members who answered the call. We must never forget.

I was proud to join Los Angeles County Justice, Care and Opportunities Department today to break ground on the Warm Landing Place, an innovative, care-first project that will help people returning home from incarceration reconnect with their loved ones, find a warm bed and access the resources they need to move forward. For too long, people released from Men’s Central Jail have been left to navigate reentry on their own, making it harder to break the cycles of incarceration and substance use. The Warm Landing Place will give people leaving custody and their families a place to connect, learn about available services and get the support they need to build a stable path forward. Today’s groundbreaking brings us one step closer to making that support a lasting part of reentry in Los Angeles County.
