Today, Latin Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Melkite Greek Catholics, Armenian Orthodox, Anglicans, Evangelicals and many other Christian communities live and worship across the country.

Their churches, monasteries and institutions remain an integral part of Israel’s religious, cultural and historical landscape.

We mourn the losses of Major Yuval Ezra, 27, from Herzliya, n Artillery Battery Commander in the 411th Battalion, 282nd Brigade, and Master Sergeant (Res.) Benayahu Mellet, 32, from Yitzhar, a combat commander in the 8119th Battalion of the Jerusalem Brigade, who fell during operational activity in the area of Tell.

Our hearts are with their family and loved ones.

On Tisha B’Av, we mourn one of the darkest chapters in the history of Israel: the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem and the exile of the Jewish people from their indigenous homeland.

For centuries, we mourned Jerusalem, prayed to return, and kept the Land of Israel at the heart of our identity, wherever we lived.

Our roots are here. Our story continues here. The people of Israel will always remain in the Land of Israel.

Today, Christians around the world commemorate Saint Mary Magdalene.

Her name means “Mary of Migdal” A Jewish town that still exists in today’s Israel.

Today, Migdal, on the shores of the Sea of Galilee is a prosperous agricultural Jewish village, just like it was 2,000 years ago!

Shomron (Samaria) was founded as the capital of the Kingdom of Israel some 3000 years ago. Later renamed Sebastia by Herod, the King of Judea, it is a site of Jewish legacy and cultural heritage.

UNESCO should know the Jewish history of Sebastia. A World Heritage designation that obliterates that history undermines the institution’s own purpose.
