As Charles White Park begins its journey to restoration, we’re coming together to mark its groundbreaking and look toward its future. On Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., we’ll gather to celebrate what's in store. In addition to the program, the event will feature a ceremonial tree planting, refreshments, and a kids art corner. I'm excited about all the new memories and opportunities in store once the park reopens.

My office has been in close contact with the City of La Verne throughout this incident to assess what needs remain outstanding and what additional support may be needed for residents. With schools and homes in the surrounding area, I urge everyone to take this situation seriously and follow all instructions from local authorities, including any shelter-in-place orders. Please stay away from the area and do not interfere with emergency operations. The safest thing people can do right now is follow the guidance of first responders and rely on official sources for updates. I commend the first responders who are working hard to contain this fire and keep the community safe.

In recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month, I was honored to celebrate two incredible Fifth District leaders whose passion for serving others has strengthened our communities. Congratulations to Kathy Hernandez, Director of Foster Care Programs for FosterAll and City of Pasadena Police Department volunteer, and Francisco “Panchito” Ramirez Rueda, founder of Dreamers Soccer Clinic and Director of Partnerships and Community for AV ALTA FC, the Antelope Valley's professional soccer team. Both honorees credit their heritage with shaping the values behind their work: faith, perseverance, and a commitment to uplifting the next generation, which are on full display every day.

Today, we celebrate the 35th anniversary of Armenia’s independence and the enduring spirit of a people who have carried their culture, faith, and identity across centuries of adversity. Through challenges, loss, and renewal, the Armenian people have shown the world what it means to hold fast to hope and to never give up on the dream of freedom. As we mark this anniversary, we renew our commitment to stand in solidarity with Armenians locally and globally. Thank you to Consul General Anna Avetisyan, Consulate General of Armenia in Los Angeles, for inviting me to join in tonight’s celebration.🇦🇲

Today, we celebrated the Kang family’s finished home, completed just six months after they began construction because they used a pre-approved building plan. They’re one of six families who worked with Brookfield SoCal/AZ whose homes are finishing this month. No family’s rebuilding journey is the same, but there are tools and resources any resident can use (like pre-approved plans) to make the process quicker and easier.

Counties play a vital role in delivering services to our communities. Thank you to State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Secretary Xavier Becerra, and Senator Ben Allen for sitting down with members of the California State Association of Counties at the Altadena Community Center today for a productive conversation about the necessary collaboration between counties with the state and federal governments. Recovery and rebuilding after the Eaton Fire has put the need for that coordination on full display.

It's encouraging to see how many homes are taking shape when I drive through Altadena. As of today, L.A. County has issued 3,600 building permits for Altadena rebuilds, 2,260 homes are actively under construction, and 191 have finished building. While we're far from finished, this gives me hope.

It was so fun to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Mexican Independence Day at El Portal Restaurant with City of Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo serving as the bartender! What a special way to highlight the beloved Latino local businesses and people who make our communities more vibrant every day.
