🍿 That’s a wrap on Films on the Green Los Angeles!

Last Saturday, we gathered at the iconic Hollyhock House for a special screening of Jacques Demy’s Model Shop — his only American film and a true love letter to Los Angeles. 🌴🎬

What better place to rediscover this portrait of 1960s LA than this outstanding sunset, under the stars, right here in the city that inspired it? ✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for the live performance Jean-Luc Eldenwood, the food trucks ardi’s | food truck | los angeles Secreto and for those who joined us for this beautiful evening, and to our partners for bringing Films on the Green to Los Angeles.

🌊 From Villa Albertine Los Angeles to the opening night of The American French Film Festival.

We’re thrilled to celebrate Phuong Mai Nguyen, former Villa Albertine Los Angeles resident, whose animated feature In Waves will open the 30th anniversary edition of The American French Film Festival on November 3 at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles.

Adapted from AJ Dungo’s acclaimed graphic novel, In Waves tells the story of AJ, a reserved high school student and aspiring artist, and Kristen, an energetic surfer who introduces him to the ocean and first love, until she is diagnosed with cancer.

Set against the surf culture of Southern California, the film brings Dungo’s distinctive drawings to life through French animation. The story’s journey mirrors the Franco-American spirit at the heart of the festival: an American story that found a second life through French artistry and craft before returning to its origins.

The opening of In Waves also marks the first time an animated feature will open the festival, kicking off six days of French cinema and series in Hollywood.

Acclaimed French Moroccan author, activist, and cultural figure Leïla Slimani will join cultural interlocutor Paul Holdengräber for a wide-ranging discussion touching on Slimani’s fearless literary explorations.

Conversation followed by a book sale and signing, hosted by Los Angeles’ Chevalier Books.

France, Poland, and Germany stand together for a stronger Europe! 🇫🇷🇵🇱🇩🇪🇪🇺

To mark the 35th anniversary of the Weimar Triangle, Consul General of France Adrien Frier, Consul General of Poland Paulina Kapuścińska, and Deputy Consul General of Germany Danijel Skrelja welcomed partners and friends at a joint reception here in Los Angeles.

Established in 1991, this format enables our countries to regularly coordinate joint responses to shared European challenges.

Recent Weimar initiatives across all levels of government have addressed key priorities, from competitiveness, transport, and research cooperation to counter-disinformation efforts, environmental protection, and unwavering support for Ukraine.

The Weimar Triangle continues to bring our nations closer together. The close cooperation between our three Consulates General in LA is proof of that partnership.
