Meet Jeffrey Mantor, owner of Larry Edmunds Bookshop

Larry Edmunds Bookshop was established in 1938 by Larry Edmunds and Milton Luboviski. Following Larry's passing, Luboviski retained the shop's name and, alongside his wife, Git, transformed it in the early 1960s into a specialty business catering to fans, collectors, and professionals in the film and television industry.

The business remained in the family until 2007 when long-time employee Jeffrey Mantor took over as owner. The bookshop continues to serve the film and television industry, offering generations of film lovers, collectors, and industry professionals a one-of-a-kind destination for books, scripts, photos, posters, and memorabilia.

Beyond its shelves, Larry Edmunds Bookshop has long served as a living part of the film and television community. Authors, filmmakers, and historians frequently collaborate with the shop for events, signings, and presentations. Its decades of dedication have helped preserve and celebrate the legacy of cinema, making it a vital resource for those studying, creating, or simply enjoying film.

Meet Alexandra Clarey, owner of Cheech's Pizza

Douglas Clarey opened Cheech's Pizza in 1993 and has proudly served the Los Feliz community. His daughter, Alexandra Clarey, grew up around the shop, starting to work there at the age of 16. In 2014, Alexandra took over the business as the second-generation owner and intends to continue the legacy, with hopes that her children will eventually take the reins.

As a family-owned traditional pizzeria, Cheech's Pizza is renowned for its deliciously light and slightly sweet pizza crust and house-made sauce. Each pie is hand-tossed and prepared fresh to order using high-quality ingredients, alongside a menu that includes calzones, pastas, salads, and options for vegan and gluten-free diners.

Over the decades, Cheech’s Pizza has become woven into the fabric of the Los Feliz community. Families have relied on it for everyday meals, celebrations, and milestones, returning year after year with new generations. By remaining independent, family-run, and committed to tradition, Cheech’s continues to be a gathering point where neighbors connect over good food, familiar faces, and a shared sense of place as a lasting part of the community’s story.

Meet Max, Emilia, and Ricardo Lopez, owners of Placita Market La Oaxaqueña

Max and Emilia Lopez transformed a small convenience store into a thriving neighborhood market. Drawing on years of hands-on experience with produce and store management, the couple built Placita Market La Oaxaqueña focused on quality, variety, and service.

Placita Market La Oaxaqueña is recognized for its fresh fruits and vegetables, including like pitaya, sapote, and rambutan. By offering culturally relevant foods alongside essential services like EBT and WIC, the market ensures that families have access to quality products in a welcoming, supportive environment.

As one of the few grocers in the area, generations of families rely on the market for both daily staples and special ingredients that connect them to heritage and home. With their eldest son, Ricardo, learning the business to carry the legacy forward, Max and Emilia ensure that Placita Market La Oaxaqueña will continue to nourish the community both through food and the relationships it has cultivated over the years.
