We provide a community for radio enthusiasts to connect, learn, and explore the world of radio technology. Our mission is to inspire and educate individuals about the exciting field of amateur radio, fostering a passion for communication, technology, and community involvement. We hold our business and new membership meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, and our club training meetings on the 4

th Tuesday of each month. We meet at the Disabled American Veterans, 7414 83rd Street at 7:00pm. Frequently Asked Questions

- What is Ham Radio? Ham Radio, know as Amateur Radio, is a hobby used by many to communicate with others around the world! This can be assisting in emergencies, relaying messages, contesting, and even talking with the International
Space Station with the use of handheld, mobile or fixed radio stations! Read and learn more here:
http://www.arrl.org/what-is-ham-radio

- Do I need a license? The FCC requires Amateur Radio operators to have a current license for operating on allocated radio
frequencies. There are different levels (or classes) of licensing for Amateur Radio Operators: Technician ,
General, and Extra. Each level provides the use of or the restriction of certain frequencies. We would love to
tell you more and help get you started!

- What is the cost to become licensed? There are a lot of online study guides and study apps available, some are free and some have a fee. There are
also study guides for each license class available from several vendors and online stores. Once you are ready
to test for your license, testing locations charge a nominal fee (roughly in the $15 range, but varies from
location to location). Once you pass your exam, the FCC has a $35 fee to process and issue your license (this
fee is paid directly to the FCC, HCRA does not collect or set these fees). Your license is good for 10 years! Have more questions? We would love to tell you more and help get you started!

- Do you offer training? Yes we do! Our club members help create and present training classes for our members and the public. We
cover various topics from basic radio operations, contesting, propagation, antennas, homebrew builds, and so
much more! And we network with other clubs and ham operators. It's a continual learning process for all of
us. Come out and meet us, we would love to answer more of your questions and help get you started!

And to our amazing Volunteer Examiners… thank you. Your dedication, your time, and your heart for both this hobby and our community are what make these sessions possible. You show up, you serve, and you make a real difference.

Thank you to the VEs who came out this morning to support the exam session at Christ the King Schools. I’m grateful for each of you and the steady, faithful way you help make these sessions possible.

Congratulations to all who passed their examinations — well done on their hard work and dedication.

It truly warms my heart to see young people stepping into this hobby. I’m looking forward to watching them grow, visit the club, join us for Field Day, maybe spend some time contesting with Terry, and even teach us a few things along the way.

I’m always proud of our team when we host exam sessions at the club, but there’s something especially meaningful about a room filled with young people taking their first steps into amateur radio. It’s an honor to be part of that moment.

And a special thank‑you to Jack (KJ5ONN) for opening this door for your students. We appreciate the care you’re pouring into them, and we’re celebrating with you on your Extra class upgrade.

Technician: 6
Extra: 2 upgrades
