City of Macedonia Join the fun in Macedonia! Enjoy all Donia has to offer - Arts, History, Play & Eat. Macedonia is one of the oldest and most historic towns in Southwest Iowa.

Macedonia was first founded on the east side of the Nishnabotna River in 1846, because of frequent flooding and the coming of the CB&Q Railroad was moved to its present location in 1880. You will find the Mormon Trail winding through the town and nearby countryside. The town has a covered stadium that is one of two remaining in Iowa, a beautifully shaded park with playground equipment and a walkin

g trail. A half mile from town is the descent to the river at Olde Town Park where Mormons crossed the river on limestone rock ledge. Macedonia offers a small-town family life with the heart of an old-fashioned village. Throughout the year the community is busy with events and activities…Grist Mill theatre productions & art shows, community dinners, Annual Donia Day celebrations, Fire Department activities, MHPS Annual Nishnabotna River Rubber Ducky Race, and an access point to the West Nishnabotna River Water Trail.

Donia Day Scavenger Hunt - Can You Find Them All?

Grab your family or friends and put your knowledge of Macedonia to the test in the Donia Day Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, September 12! Teams of 2-4 people can start anytime after the 11 AM parade. This FREE activity is great for families, teens and adults.

Follow the clues around town, find the correct landmarks and take team selfies to prove your discoveries! Allow about one hour total, but there's no need to do it all at once. Take a break, enjoy other Donia Day activities, and pick up where you left off. All entries must be completed and turned in by 3:00 PM.

PRIZES!
The winning team will be determined by the number of landmarks accurately found in sequence, with selfies as proof. In case of a tie, the winner will be drawn at random.
1st Place: Two $50 gift certificates to The Back Forty
Most Creative/Crazy Selfie: Each member of the team with the most creative selfie wins a Macedonia T-shirt!

How well do you really know Macedonia? You may be surprised by some of the things you've walked past without ever noticing!
