Middle Georgia Regional Library Our mission is to connect all people to the information necessary to improve their lives through excellent services and materials.

Headquartered in Macon's historic Washington Memorial Library, Middle Georgia Regional Library serves Bibb, Crawford, Jones, Macon, Twiggs, Wilkinson, and Baldwin counties in Central Georgia. We are affiliated with Georgia PINES. MGRL hosts 17 outlets including the Library Without Walls (WoW), the Genealogical & Historical Department, Middle Georgia Archives, and the Business and Nonprofit Center (BANC). NOTICE: MGRL has extended its deadline to apply for the Reference Manager position at the Mary Vinson Memorial Library in Milledgeville, GA.

This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week for $14 per hour.

🤔 Do you have questions about navigating Medicare? The Library Annex is here to help.

We are partnering with the SHIP State Health Insurance Assistance Program to offer patrons one-on-one sessions with a Medicare counselor.

Sessions are by appointment only. You can register in person or online by clicking this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScNFMBb7Rcvo1C_jnvTIGVxOkcAIyIGhKKFg9o1jZoo2f_1HA/viewform?usp=header.

SHIP counselors will be on site at the Library Annex located at the Macon Mall from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on the following Mondays:

Today we’d like to highlight the Friends of the Gordon Library volunteers for National Friends of Libraries Week! Their gifts, beautification work, and fundraising events continue to make the Gordon Public Library a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone.

Scandal. Fame. Fortune. Intrigue.

Hear the bizarre stories of one man’s life as local author and award-winning journalist, Ken H. Fortenberry, will visit Washington Memorial Library to discuss his book, Brilliant Oddball: Colonel Telamon Cuyler, The Most Mysterious Man in Georgia.

Join us next Tuesday, October 27 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM in our Genealogical and Historical Room, where Fortenberry will read passages in this biography, drawing from documented accounts and personal diaries of a man who shaped part of Georgia’s history.

During his life, Colonel Telamon Cruger Smith Cuyler traveled the world befriending leaders and celebrities, practicing law internationally, and influencing various fields of industry, while also navigating personal turmoil and multiple scandals.

We invite you to drop in for a preview of his book, and hear how he researched and wrote about the perplexing life of this historic Jones County native. Take a look at these pictures of author Ken Fortenberry’s visit to the Jones County Library earlier this year!

We greatly appreciate the Friends of the Library Macon for their volunteer work, annual book sales, and donations which provide valuable support to our Macon-Bibb County libraries.

With the help of the Friends, our libraries are able to offer free activities and incentives like the Summer Reading Program for all of our patrons. Their commitment to libraries continues to help us make an impact in the communities we serve.

This week is National Friends of Libraries Week!

Today we’d like to say a big thank you and congratulations to the Friends of the Mary Vinson Memorial Library, Inc for helping the Hancock Branch Library secure a SWANK Motion Pictures, Inc. movie license!

With their support, the Hancock Branch is now able to screen popular family-friendly movies each month at no cost to our patrons! This opportunity is especially impactful since it allows Baldwin County residents of all ages to once again gather and enjoy movies after the closing of Milledgeville’s movie theater last year.

Join us at the Hancock Branch this Friday, October 23 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM for a fan-favorite Halloween movie (rated PG) about witches, black cats, trick-or-treating, and the magic of family. To learn more, visit our web calendar at bibblib.org/calendar.

Notice: The Genealogical & Historical Room at Washington Memorial Library will be CLOSED all day Wednesday, October 28 for a staff work day.

We are in the process of expanding Washington Memorial Library’s Memory Lab thanks to a $500,000 grant from the Mellon Foundation. Take a look at our progress!

Washington Memorial Library will remain open for its regular hours of operation during this time. We appreciate your understanding, and are grateful for the opportunity to update this valuable community resource.

Here are a few events happening this week in our libraries:

Join us for a Puppet Show Mystery and Story Time at the Shurling Library! Kids ages 4-11 can practice Print Literacy by helping us solve the mystery of the missing library looks on Tuesday, October 20 from 4:30 to 5:30 PM. Hear staff read The Midnight Library by Kazuno Kohara, then make your very own assistant owl puppet!

Stop by the Marshallville Public Library on Thursday, October 22 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, where we’ll have a Financial Literacy class for adults. Come find out how to make small changes to your spending and saving habits for better money management skills.

Also on Thursday, October 22 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, the Charles A. Lanford, M.D. Library will host a Health Literacy class for adults, where Piedmont Macon will share a presentation on chronic conditions and maintaining overall wellness, followed by free blood pressure tests.
