The NH Coalition to End Homelessness (NHCEH), a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1990. As homelessness increased throughout the state, individuals and organizations began working on solutions to house and serve this growing population. In response, the NHCEH organized leaders in the state to research solutions on ending homelessness, educate providers on best practices, and empower people to

advocate on behalf of the homeless. Our belief is that having a home is a basic human right and is fundamental to becoming an engaged and contributing member of our community.

The quote is from a Miles, a Granite Leader Alumni. His words left us all inspired as we closed up our first day of NHCEH’s 2024 Granite Leaders program; a unique training opportunity for those who have experienced homelessness to build leadership and advocacy skills. In a few words, Miles exemplifies both the critical need for, and impact of, NHCEH’s mission: focusing on lasting solutions to end homelessness through research, education and advocacy.

Your gift to NHCEH during NH Gives on June 11-12th will show those experiencing homelessness just how much you care. Thank you for your support and for believing with us that having a home is a human right.

“Nothing changes if nothing changes.” This from Senator Donovan Fenton during his opening address to Keene State students and community members gathered for “Safe and Sound NH: Pathways to Stable Housing.” The simplicity of Senator Fenton’s statement perfectly contrasts with the complexity of the problem to expose the deeply unfortunate truth; NH is failing to meet the staggering housing needs of its citizens. Yes. We need change.

Keene State sociology students have spent the semester studying systemic causes of homelessness and developing their ideas on strategies for change. It was impossible not to be both impressed and inspired listening to NH youth describe their findings. Student projects ranged from the need to provide accessible resources and support for those transitioning out of incarceration to the building of tiny home communities using 3D printers.

NHCEH was present to share and to learn and be reminded, once again, of the incredible network of leaders and providers – both seasoned and up and coming - working tirelessly to make this basic human right attainable for every NH citizen.

NHCEH often hears that organizations are looking to engage individuals with lived experience to provide feedback and guidance on advisory committees and Boards, and to help with strategic planning initiatives. We want to make that wish a reality!

If this describes your agency, NHCEH encourages you to identify a candidate for the Granite Leaders program and support their application and participation! It's a win-win-win for participants, agencies, and the community at large.

Granite Leaders is a free Leadership and Advocacy training program for people who have experienced homelessness. Granite Leaders are paid $300 to attend 5 sessions over the first two weeks in June, and are eligible to receive mileage reimbursement.
