Today we were proud to officially welcome Firefighter Aydan Regiec to the Maple Heights Fire Department!

Mayor Annette Blackwell administered the oath of office as Firefighter Regiec was sworn in, surrounded by his family and friends who were there to support him on this special occasion.

Our area is currently experiencing reduced air quality due to smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires. While there is no local fire emergency, the smoke contains very small particles that can affect your health, especially if you spend extended periods outdoors.

What you can do to protect yourself:
• Limit prolonged outdoor activity, especially strenuous exercise.
• Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
• Stay well hydrated.

Individuals with asthma, COPD, heart disease, young children, older adults, and pregnant individuals should take extra precautions, as they may be more sensitive to poor air quality.

Today, July 15, 2026, members of the Maple Heights Fire Department participated in live fire training at the Auburn Career Center Burn Building.

Throughout the day, firefighters worked together gaining valuable hands-on experience extinguishing fires in a variety of realistic scenarios. Training in a controlled live-fire environment allows our personnel to sharpen critical firefighting skills, improve teamwork, and prepare for the challenges they may face protecting our community.

We are grateful to Auburn Career Center for providing access to this outstanding training facility and for helping make this valuable training opportunity possible.

We would also like to recognize retired Maple Heights Fire Chief Vito Kavaliunas, who now serves as an instructor at Auburn Career Center. Chief Kavaliunas was one of today's instructors, and it was a special opportunity for our firefighters to learn from someone who dedicated so many years to serving the City of Maple Heights.

7/14/26: This morning at 6:55 a.m., the Maple Heights Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 5200 block of Henry Street after a nearby resident noticed smoke coming from the roof.

Firefighters quickly located and extinguished the fire, which was confined primarily to the first floor. The home was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

We appreciate the assistance provided by our mutual aid partners from Garfield Heights, Bedford, Valley View, Warrensville Heights, and Solon Fire Departments.

Thank you to the neighbor who quickly recognized something was wrong and called 911. Early notification helped prevent the fire from becoming much more significant.

UPDATE 3:49 PM. TRAFFIC IS RESUMING ON LEE ROAD. CONTRACTORS ARE STILL WORKING IN THE AREA; HOWEVER, THE SITUATION HAS BEEN ABATED

A gas leak near the intersection of Lee Rd and Friend has promoted Lee Road to be closed between Raymond and Libby. At this time the source of the leak has been identified and Enbridge working on the repair. The road is anticipated to be opened shortly.

LEE RD IS NOW OPEN. FRIEND AVE WILL REMAIN CLOSED BETWEEN HENRY AND LEE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE HOURS.
ANYONE THAT WAS EVACUATED, THE EVACUATION ORDER IS LIFTED AND MAY RETURN.

*Attention City of Maple Heights, Ohio Lee Rd is closed to Northbound and Southbound traffic until further notice. It will be closed between Raymond and Libby. Also Friend Ave from Henry St to Lee Rd is closed as well.
