Today we celebrated K9 Mates, recognizing his 6+ years serving his community and wished him well in his retirement! His handler Deputy B. Snapp said that having K9 Mates as a partner was motivating to him, and his desire to work was still extremely strong, but it was physically time to hang up his leash.

Deputy Snapp and K9 Mates were utilized on countless calls for service within our county and also by surrounding agencies when needed. Over the years, they were a favorite duo at community demonstrations and school events. K9 Mates was the featured K9 unit 3 out of 5 years at the BCSO Community Days held by our office.

We are all thankful for the opportunity to work alongside K9 Mates over the last 6+ years. His desire to "get to work" was unmatched and clearly evident to all of us as he tried to pull Deputy Snapp back to work while waiting for yesterday's ceremony. BCSO's K9 program was improved having K9 Mates as part of it and the impact you made will continue to shape the program's future.

K9 Mates was retired to his handler Deputy Snapp and his family. We know that we will be seeing him for visits, but his daily presence will be missed. Thank you K9 Mates and congratulations on your retirement!

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is seeking the community's assistance with an ongoing missing person investigation involving Mary Jean Olshefski-Beatty, who has been missing since March 4, 2011.

Mary was last known to be in the Gerrardstown, West Virginia area, and investigators have received information indicating she may also have been seen in the Martinsburg area around the time of her disappearance.

Mary may have also used the names Alice Cook, Carol Martin, or Rachael.

At the time of her disappearance, Mary experienced chronic pain and would sometimes have difficulty walking. She may have occasionally used a cane for assistance.

The photograph on the left is an FBI age-progression image depicting what Mary may look like today. The photograph on the right depicts Mary around the time of her disappearance.

Anyone who knew Mary, remembers seeing her around the time she disappeared, or has information regarding her whereabouts or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance is asked to contact the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office at (304) 267-7000.

Even information that may have seemed insignificant at the time could be important to this investigation.
