Located at the gateway to the Shenandoah Valley in the heart of the Eastern Panhandle, Berkeley County is known for it’s unique history, beautiful scenery, robust industry, and more. Formed on May 15, 1772 from neighboring Frederick County, Virginia by an act of the Virginia House of Burgesses, Berkeley County originally spanned from the Blue Ridge Mountains in what is now Jefferson County to Warm

Springs Ridge, just beyond the famed springs at the Town of Bath (Berkeley Springs) in what is now Morgan County. The county was named in honor of Norborne Berkeley, Baron de Botetourt, a royal governor of Virginia. Adam Stephen, Berkeley County’s first sheriff, laid out the county seat along Tuscarora Creek and named it Martinsburg in honor of his friend, Col. Since the arrival of Morgan Morgan, the first colonial settler in what is now West Virginia, Berkeley County has been an epicenter of engagement, growth, and community.

If enough damage is reported statewide, West Virginia may be able to seek additional federal assistance — including individual assistance. While completing the survey does not guarantee individual assistance, unreported damage cannot be counted when recovery needs are evaluated.

Even if you personally did not experience damage, sharing this information may help a neighbor, family member, or local business owner who was affected.

The threshold is high so every report matters!

📢 Important Update!

Effective August 31, 2026, the administrative offices of the Berkeley County Fire Service Board and Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority will be in Suite 207 of the Berkeley County Administration building, located at 400 W. Stephen St., Martinsburg.

Due to storm damage Thursday evening, the Fire Service Board and Ambulance Authority offices were closed on Friday and have temporarily relocated to second floor space near the elevator in the atrium area of the building. 🚪
