Official platform for the historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Martinsburg Shops, home of the world's sole-surviving cast-iron framed roundhouse and revitalized center for promotion of Community Engagement, History Education, Small Business and the Arts. https://www.roundhousewv.com/

The historic Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Martinsburg Shops sit in a shallow valley, on a crescent-shaped parcel o

f land along the banks of Tuscarora Creek in Martinsburg. Built after the Civil War, the three structures in current use today are referred to as the Bridge and Machine Shop, West Roundhouse, and Frog and Switch Shop. All that remains of the East Roundhouse are ruins after a massive fire in 1990. CSX, the modern owner of the B&O, closed the shops in 1988, but maintained ownership until 1999 when the 13-acre complex was purchased by the Berkeley County Commission. Ownership of the property was transferred to the Berkeley County Roundhouse Authority (BCRA) in 2000. Authorized by the West Virginia Legislature, the BCRA is a not-for-profit, public corporation charged with preservation and adaptive reuse of the site. West Virginia's 16th National Historic Landmark also has been designed as a Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

We also must extend a huge shoutout to our amazing Roundhouse docents and Aubrey Ervin and Lilly Tillman with "The George" for helping provide memorable learning experiences for the kids in our community.
