Sailor of the Week!
PSSN Bernard, Jayla from Orlando, FL.

PSSN Bernard joined the Navy because a lot of her family members were or are still in the Navy. Her main source of inspiration came after spending the summer with her cousin who is a CWO5. She also joined for the opportunities to travel and see the world. She likes to do hair, cook and she also played flag football in High School.

PSSN Bernard consistently demonstrates exceptional military bearing and an unwavering commitment to supporting her shipmates. She is a very humble student that allows her work and character to speak for her. She has maintained a positive attitude throughout the duration of the course and currently has a GPA of 92.22%.

Please join us in recognizing Yeoman Seaman Joseph N. Magwood for his extraordinary and selfless actions!

On October 4, 2026, while serving as a student at Naval Technical Training Center Meridian, Mississippi, YNSN Magwood witnessed a motor vehicle accident. Without hesitation or regard for his own safety, he rushed to the scene to assist.

After assessing the situation, YNSN Magwood successfully extricated an elderly couple trapped inside the vehicle through the rear windshield, stabilized both victims, and secured the area until first responders arrived.

His swift, decisive actions prevented further injury and epitomized the Navy’s core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. For his outstanding leadership and bravery, YNSN Magwood was presented with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal!
