Our community is stronger because of the partnerships we build before an emergency happens.

Local organizations are an important part of our emergency planning efforts. Partners like Mount Sinai Medical Center and OVG, the management company for the Miami Beach Convention Center, regularly participate in trainings and exercises alongside our Emergency Management team.

It’s partnerships like these that help keep Miami Beach better prepared.

Our CERT and EMS teams proudly participated in the City of Miami Beach Employee Health, Safety and Wellness Fair. They shared valuable information on how employees can get involved in CERT, learned stop-the-bleed techniques and practiced hands-only CPR.

Meet Matthew Roach, our Emergency Management Coordinator. With 20 years of experience in Emergency Management, including 11 years with the City of Miami Beach, Matthew oversees the City’s emergency management training program, helping ensure compliance with FEMA’s National Incident Management System (NIMS) requirements.

He plans and conducts training courses, drills and exercises to strengthen the City’s emergency preparedness and ensure personnel are ready to respond when needed. Matthew also leads the Miami Beach Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP), coordinating discussion-based exercises, such as tabletops, as well as operations-based exercises, including functional and full-scale exercises.

His training program also extends into the community through opportunities such as CERT and CPR training.

Matthew is a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and a proud Miami Beach resident. We’re lucky to have Matthew as part of our Emergency Management team!

Today, we’re highlighting recovery — the process of returning to normal and rebuilding after an emergency or disaster.

Recovery can look different depending on the emergency. It may include safely returning home, documenting property damage, making necessary repairs, accessing available resources and checking in on neighbors who may need assistance.

Recovery takes time, but knowing what resources are available can help our community move forward together.

A Heat Advisory is in effect today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

To help residents stay cool, Miami-Dade Public Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces (PROS) facilities are available as cooling centers during their regular hours of operation.

Miami Beach Public Libraries cooling center locations:

- North Shore Branch Library – 7501 Collins Avenue
- South Shore Branch Library– 131 Alton Road
