From Interdiction to Rescue: Coast Guard Safeguards Lives at Sea

Coast Guard Cutter Isaac Mayo’s crew repatriated six people to Cuba, Tuesday, following a maritime migrant interdiction and a separate disabled vessel rescue in the Florida Straits.

Coast Guard crews interdicted three Cuban nationals southwest of Cay Sal, Thursday. One person was later medically evacuated to shore for a higher level of care.

In a separate case Sunday, a Coast Guard Air Station Miami aircrew located a disabled Cuban fishing vessel with four people aboard approximately 46 miles southeast of Key West. The Isaac Mayo crew responded and rescued all four people.

The Coast Guard and our partners remain vigilant in protecting our maritime borders while safeguarding lives at sea.

Weekend boat races end in a sea turtle save 🐢🌊

A Coast Guard Station Cortez’s reserve and active duty crew saved an entangled Loggerhead sea turtle, Sunday, following the end of the boat races approximately 1 mile offshore between Venice Inlet and Big Sarasota Pass.

Cortez’s crew carefully brought the sea turtle alongside the boat, safely untangled the line freeing the sea turtle to swim away under its own fin power.

Moments like this show the true strength of Southeast District’s workforce. Whether active duty or reserve, our crew remains ready to protect both the boating public and our native marine life.

A safe return starts with proper preparation. ⚓

A U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce boat crew assisted four people aboard a disabled 15-foot vessel near Florida Point Inlet after its engine became inoperative, Sunday.

Amid rainy conditions, the crew provided a manual bilge pump as a precaution against flooding and towed the vessel safely to Stan Blum Boat Ramp.

Our Coast Guard crews stay prepared through continuous training, qualifications and physical fitness, ensuring they remain Semper Paratus, Always Ready, to respond to maritime emergencies across the Southeast’s 1.8 million square mile area of responsibility.

A routine patrol turned into a rescue near Flagler Memorial Island.

A U.S. Coast Guard Station Miami boat crew rescued one person in the water after a passing personal watercraft operator waved them down and alerted them to an overturned hydrofoil near Flagler Memorial Island, Saturday.

The crew recovered the individual and the vessel, confirmed no injuries, and transported the boater to Watson Island Marina.

Our Coast Guard crews maintain readiness through training, qualifications and physical fitness ensuring they remain Semper Paratus, Always Ready, to respond throughout the Southeast's 1.8 million square mile area of responsibility.

Disabled vessel drifting further out to sea ⛴️

A Station Ponce de Leon Inlet boat crew assisted four people aboard a disabled fishing vessel after they lost all electronics functionality and suffered an alternator failure approx. 50 miles off Ponce Inlet, Sunday.

There were no reported medical concerns.

After arriving on scene, the boat crew towed the vessel to shallower waters, enabling the vessel to safely anchor approx. 10 miles offshore with plans to have commercial salvage assist in the morning.

The boat crew brought one fishing vessel crew member ashore to assist with towing logistics the next day.

Sector Jacksonville received the call for assistance via the vessel’s onboard satellite phone.

Southeast District personnel execute complex search and rescue mission through precise navigation and seamless coordination between watchstanders, operational crews and maritime partners to deliver rapid lifesaving response.
