Enjoyed a visit today at the Marshall County Senior Center Picnic at St. Jude Park in Glen Dale!

Although I could only stay for a short time, I had the opportunity to catch up with some old friends, meet some new ones, and enjoy the great turnout.

Our seniors have contributed so much to Marshall County, and the programs and services available to them are an important part of our community. As your Marshall County Commissioner, I will continue to support our seniors and the programs that serve them.

Thank you to everyone who helped put together today’s picnic. It was great seeing everyone!

Let’s see what we CAN do.

Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the Glen Dale City Council meeting. I appreciated the chance to introduce myself to the council and those in attendance and to briefly talk about my campaign for Marshall County Commissioner and the priorities I hope to bring to the Commission.

Afterward, I stayed for the remainder of the meeting and listened as the council conducted the city’s business.

Having spent many years with the City of Moundsville, I have a long history of attending and observing city council meetings. I understand that local government isn’t always about easy decisions. Sometimes elected officials are faced with choices that can affect their community for generations.

That was the case last night.

The Glen Dale City Council was considering an issue whose impact could foreseeably extend to their children, grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. What impressed me was the way they approached that responsibility.

They calmly gathered the facts, discussed the pros and cons, openly expressed their concerns, and listened to one another. There was no unnecessary arguing or grandstanding. In the end, they reached a unanimous decision.

Regardless of the issue before them, that is how local government should work—get the facts, ask the questions, listen to the concerns, and make the decision you believe is best for the people you represent.

I came away impressed with the professionalism of the Glen Dale City Council, and if I am fortunate enough to be elected Marshall County Commissioner, I look forward to working with them and all of our municipalities to move Marshall County forward.

Let’s see what we CAN do.

I had a wonderful time attending the open house at Center McMechen Elementary School!

It was great to see the children coming in to meet their teachers and bus drivers before their first day of school. Several years ago, the Marshall County Board of Education began allowing bus drivers to participate in school open houses, and I believe it has been a wonderful addition.

These events give us an opportunity to meet our students and their families outside of the bus, confirm bus-stop locations, provide estimated pickup and drop-off times, answer parents’ questions, and distribute necessary enrollment paperwork.

I attended the open house with Wayne Nulph, the driver of Bus 71. We were pleased to welcome families and help them prepare for a safe and successful school year.

One of the greatest joys of being a school bus driver is seeing your students again and recognizing how much they have grown and progressed over the summer. We transport more than passengers—we carry some of Marshall County’s most precious responsibilities.

Best wishes to all of our students, parents, teachers, staff members, and bus drivers for a safe and successful school year!
