Something terrible has just happened!! You need help and you need it fast. Frantically you fumble for your phone. You try to hold it together but this is just really bad, it might even be the worst day of your life.

You take a deep breath and dial 911.

A calm voice answers…. “911, what’s your emergency”….

You immediately loose it! You’re talking fast. Barely able to breathe. You’re not thinking straight, not even sure you’re getting the words out.

The voice that answered has the training, experience, and unique talent to stop you, calm you, and help you.

Before the lights and sirens ever roll out, your journey to the other side of this awful day, this worst moment, begins, and it begins with something as simple a voice… that voice from a person you can’t see, that voice from a person you’ve never meet and may never meet, that voice that’s sends help your way and fast!

That voice is a 911 dispatcher.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week

From every panicked, upset, hurting voice, thank you for answering the call.

This week, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time to honor the voices behind the badge.

To our Dispatchers:

You are the calm in chaos.
The steady voice when everything else is uncertain.
The unseen first responder.

Day in and day out, you answer the calls that many could not bear to hear. You gather critical information in seconds, make life-saving decisions under pressure, and ensure that every deputy, officer, firefighter, and medic goes home safely. Your dedication, professionalism, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

You are the lifeline between our community and those sworn to protect it.

A Poem for Our Dispatchers

In the quiet room where the headsets stay,
You carry the weight of each desperate day.
A voice on the line, calm, steady, and true,
When fear takes hold, they depend on you.

You never see the lives you save,
Yet guide each step, so strong and brave.
Behind the scenes, you stand the test,
A silent hero among the best.

No flashing lights, no sirens cry,
But you are there when seconds fly.
And though your face may never show,
Your impact is deeper than you know.

To our community:
We ask you to take a moment this week to thank a dispatcher. Their work is often unseen, but it is absolutely essential. A simple “thank you” can go a long way for those who give so much of themselves every single day.

From all of us, we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you.
Sheriff Travis Patten and the ACSO Family

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 12th - 18th, 2026! At Adams County E911, our dispatchers are the heartbeat of public safety. They coordinate life-saving responses and stay on the line during our community's hardest moments.

We’ve had many citizens ask how they can show their support this week. Although we cannot accept cash or monetary gifts, your kindness can still make a huge and thoughtful impact!

Ways to show your support:
- Post a Shout-Out: Tag us in a post using to let the team know you appreciate them.
- Goodies & Snacks: Cookies, coffee, or pre-packaged snacks are always a hit during long shifts!
- Self-Care items such as skincare kits (masks, serums), scented candles, bath products, weighted blankets or silk pillowcases, and mental wellness tools like journals, and mindfulness books help to focus on relaxation, comfort, and wellness, offering a personalized way to help dispatchers unwind!
- A Simple Thanks: If you see a dispatcher out in the community (or just want to send a digital high-five), a kind word goes a long way.

To our team: Thank you for your patience, your skill, and your service. You are the invisible heroes of Adams County!
