I wanted to bring a growing safety concern to your attention regarding students riding e-bikes in and around town.

We have had three near collisions involving students on e-bikes and our school buses. Two of these incidents occurred by the school, while the third occurred south of the railroad tracks with our in-town route. In each situation, the students were younger children—under the age of 12—who were not stopping at stop signs and/or were weaving between vehicles on the roadway.

As a school district, we are taking the step of restricting e-bikes on school grounds for students under the age of 13 because of the safety concerns we are seeing.
