The town was granted to the early settlers in 1791 by the state of Massachusetts and was incorporated in 1794. It encompasses an area of approximately 28, 600 acres. The town once boasted of 16 school houses, 4 churches, 3 sawmills and a gristmill, along with chair, shoe, shovel-handle, carriage, and clothing factories. Today, there is an elementary school , 3 churches, a fire station and a pos

t office, along with numerous small businesses. New Sharon, with its scenic hills, pastures, ponds and woodland offers numerous opportunities for year-round recreation, including fishing, hunting, canoeing, ATV riding, snowmobiling, skating, scenic photography, and the annual New Sharon Days.
