Tomorrow, I will be co-chairing a joint oversight hearing of the Committee on Women and Gender Equity, alongside the Committees on Contracts and Small Business, to examine the status of New York City’s Minority and Women owned Business Enterprise certification program, and to hear my bill Resolution 281, calling on the Mayor's Office to identify and implement measures to reduce disparities faced by businesses owned by women of color in obtaining and fulfilling public contracts.
Oversight Hearing: Status of Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Certification Program
Date: Tuesday, November 18, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: 250 Broadway, 8th Floor (Hearing Room 2)
New York City is home to thousands of diverse small businesses, yet persistent disparities in contracting continue to limit opportunity for many M/WBE firms, particularly those owned by women, Black New Yorkers, Hispanic New Yorkers, Asian New Yorkers, and other historically underserved groups.
Tomorrow’s hearing will bring forward testimony from the Mayor’s Office of Contract Services, the Department of Small Business Services, the Mayor’s Office of M/WBEs, the Mayor’s Office of Nonprofit Services, the Office of the Comptroller, small business advocates, and members of the public to assess the progress of the program and the barriers that remain.
I encourage business owners, advocates, and community stakeholders to join us as we work to strengthen equity, transparency, and access within the City’s procurement process and ensure meaningful opportunities for M/WBEs across all sectors. I am committed to providing a voice to our small business community to advocate for the strength of our city's support.
