In city councils throughout the country politicians are running as Independents or NPP to mask their conservative views. Here in Encinitas, when the council majority of Mayor Bruce Ehlers and City Council Members Luke Shaffer and Jim O’Hara had the authority to appoint a City Council seat - they selected openly far-right MAGA supporter Marco San Antonio - who is now running to hold is D4 seat. And, it’s not as if he had a breadth of qualifications. So why, when there were numerous qualified candidates - did they choose San Antonio?

We have excellent candidates running who can reclaim the city council and work with the state on real change to better manage development in our community — which has been a hot topic in this and the last election. We gain far more in working with the state on real policy change than losing tax revenue on lawsuits we can’t win.

They also have real solutions for our community. We are stronger when we work together.
