A nonprofit organization delivering critical support that keeps people and their pets together, preserving the human-animal bond for individuals facing hardship. The mission of Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) NY is to help New York City’s most vulnerable residents remain with their pets by delivering critical programs and services through a community of partners and volunteers. Our programs help keep pets in their homes while protecting and promoting the human-animal bond that is so physically and psychologically valuable to our clients.

Through our Substance Use Recovery Program, PAWS NY provides temporary foster care for pets while their guardians enter inpatient treatment—so they can focus on recovery knowing their pets are safe and loved.

For many pet guardians, fear of losing a beloved companion can delay, or even prevent, the decision to enter treatment.

At PAWS NY, we believe that worrying about a beloved pet shouldn’t stand in the way when someone is ready for treatment.

That’s why we launched our Substance Use Recovery Program in 2023 — to remove one heartbreaking barrier to recovery.

Since then, we’ve provided more than 4,600 days of foster care, ensuring pets are safe while their guardians focus on healing.

This Recovery Month, we’re looking to grow the community of people supporting this critical work. New and eligible gifts will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $10,000, through September 24.

We are looking for a temporary foster for Betsy Rose who can take her in at least until Monday, 9/21. Pickup is ASAP in Tribeca!

Betsy Rose is a highly energetic, 40 lb, mixed breed female dog. She is about 6 years old and is spayed and housebroken. She will pull on the leash but this is manageable for anyone with experience walking a highly energetic dog. She is dog-friendly and gentle with other dogs outside! Please reach out to [email protected] if you can open your home to this sweet girl!

Lex the Labrador is one of our sweetest boys! His guardian Eric uses a motorized wheelchair to get around and Lex is a trained service dog. Eric and Lex reached out to PAWS NY in 2023 for assistance and we were happy to help.

PAWS NY put together a team of 12 volunteers who visit them 12 times per week to assist with dog walking to help ensure that Lex and Eric can remain together. Let's hear some love for Lex in the comments!

Today, we’re holding space in our hearts for anyone experiencing the loss of an animal family member, and sending love to all creatures on both sides of the Rainbow Bridge.

While we always aim to keep people and pets together, we sadly have to deal with loss sometimes, and it’s always painful.

To every pet waiting at the Rainbow Bridge: thank you for making our lives better. While the pain of losing a pet somewhat heals over time, they are never forgotten, and they never forget you...

A planned gift of any size can make a lasting difference. Through a bequest in your will, a beneficiary designation, or another form of planned giving, your generosity can help provide essential pet care services to New Yorkers in need for years to come.

Make sure you're planning for your own pet too. If you don’t have a trusted family member or friend who can take responsibility for your pet, PAWS NY is developing a program to help supporters plan for their pet’s future. This may include making arrangements in advance for PAWS NY to take your pet into our care and find them a safe, loving home if the need arises.
