GOSO's Action Board, a group of dedicated emerging professionals, is hosting a silent auction in support of the everyday critical services that GOSO provides to the young people of New York. We invite you, our GOSO community, to join us and bid on any items that catch your eye! From a private suite at a Yankees game, to a 4-night stay in Costa Rica, to a full-on Survivor-themed gathering, there's something for everyone. All proceeds go directly to our programming. It's that time of year! We gathered to celebrate the incredible milestones our participants have worked so hard to achieve, from passing their GED to securing meaningful employment. We were honored to welcome the legendary Felipe Luciano as our 2026 Milestone Ceremony keynote speaker. As a political activist and community leader, his words left a lasting impression on everyone in the room.

Since its inception 10 years ago, GOSO's Cure Violence team, Stand Against Violence East Harlem (SAVE), has been doing the hard work on the ground in the East Harlem community. From canvassing our catchment areas and mediating at Harlem Hospital to supporting youth at Horizons Juvenile Facility, the team has been consistent in their commitment to keeping East Harlem safe. The numbers speak for themselves.

This is what dedication looks like, and the New York City Council agrees. Yesterday, our SAVE team joined council members in the chamber to celebrate SAVE's anti-violence work with a City Council proclamation!

This is why we bring awareness to Gun Violence Awareness Month. 🧡

Last year, New York City had its safest year for gun violence ever, and it didn't happen by accident. As Mayor Zohran Mamdani recognized, this achievement is a testament to "the tireless work of community-based organizations that help keep our neighborhoods safe." Cure Violence programs like SAVE are doing that hard work on the ground every day. Research shows that precincts with Cure Violence programs averaged nearly 35 shootings per year before implementation. After launch, that number dropped to about 27 annually. That is real, measurable impact.

On Friday, in honor of , we stepped out of the office for GOSO/SAVE's 5th Annual Community Block Party! We were there to continue bringing awareness to East Harlem, a community deeply impacted by this crisis, and to pay homage to the lives lost. We brought the community together in our orange shirts to show what a strong community looks like when it shows up and backs each other. 🧡

Thank you to all the incredible community-based and crisis management organizations who helped us pull this together and came out to table and share their resources with the community.

In continuation of kicking off Gun Violence Awareness Month, GOSO/ SAVE, in partnership with NYC's Office of Neighborhood Safety, the Crisis Management System, the Department of Youth and Community Development, and many powerful community-based organizations doing the work on the ground, held a press conference at Brooklyn Restoration Plaza.

A sea of orange filled the steps and the energy was undeniable. Our Director of Programs, Nicole Myers, said it best: "We as a collective are working to build a future where every young person can feel safe from violence."

That is exactly what we are fighting for. 🧡

GOSO is thankful for the opportunity to help participants access workforce opportunities this summer and beyond.” — Michelle Pryce-Screen, President and CEO of Getting Out and Staying Out.

GOSO is honored to be among the awardees to received a total of $300,000 to fund youth gun violence prevention initiatives this summer. This vital funding will help ensure that the youth we serve will be able to access jobs and, eventually, better futures. GOSO staff and participants joined Manhattan District Attorney's Office yesterday for a press conference to kick off .
