ROAD WORK NOTICE — Thursday, September 3

SW 16th Street just west of Highway 62 (Main Street) will be reduced to one lane beginning around 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

The Newcastle Street Department will be working in the area, with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. The lane restriction is expected to remain in place until approximately noon.

The City of Newcastle is aware of reports of discolored water originating from Oklahoma City’s Lake Stanley Draper Water Treatment Plant. Because Newcastle receives water from Oklahoma City in addition to water produced from our local wells, some Newcastle customers may notice temporary discoloration.

Oklahoma City Utilities reports that the water remains safe to drink and meets water quality standards. The discoloration is believed to be related to naturally occurring iron and manganese, and treatment adjustments and system flushing are underway.

If you notice discolored water, avoid washing light-colored clothing until the water clears. You may also run cold water from a bathtub faucet for several minutes to see if it begins to clear.

⚠️ WATER LINE BREAK — PLEASE BE AWARE ⚠️

City crews are responding to a major water line break near Sooner State Bank, 420 NW 32nd St, Newcastle, near Walmart.

Crews are working now to shut the water off. We do not yet know which areas will be affected, but some customers may experience low water pressure or a loss of water service.

We will update this post as more information becomes available, including affected areas and repair progress.

UPDATE AT 9:37 AM - confirmed affected locations are the Tri-City Braums and the Chickasaw Training Center.

🚨 WATER SERVICE INTERRUPTION

(UPDATE AT 2:25 PM - water has been turned back on)

Affected Area: SE 22nd St from Main St east to the dead end

Water service in this area will be off for at least 2 hours while crews make repairs.

A plumbing contractor struck an 8-inch water main near 363 SE 22nd St.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Newcastle welcomed a new police officer and celebrated 25 years of public service Monday night.

Mayor Karl Nail swore in Officer Daniel Thompson following his graduation Friday from the 16-week CLEET Basic Academy at East Central University in Ada. The City Council also recognized Sergeant David Bristol for 25 years of service to Newcastle and his continued work specializing in investigations.

“Officer Thompson has already impressed us with his performance during the academy, and we’re proud to welcome him to Newcastle,” Police Chief Toby Garver said. “Sergeant Bristol has spent 25 years serving this community while continuing to grow, bring new ideas and take on new challenges. Seeing our officers and their families come together for milestones like these speaks to the strength of our team.”

Congratulations to Officer Thompson, and thank you to Sergeant Bristol for 25 years of dedicated service to Newcastle.

McClain County Burn Ban in Effect

McClain County has issued a county-wide burn ban effective August 10, 2026, for two weeks due to increased fire danger.

The burn ban restricts outdoor burning, including grass, brush, debris, trash, campfires, and bonfires.

Please use extra caution with anything that could produce a flame or spark and help protect our community and first responders.

• East: Week of Aug 10
• West: Week of Aug 17

Set items out by 6 AM Monday. Crews pick up all week.

Restrictions:
4-yard limit; appliances (freon certification required); brush in 4-ft bundles; no concrete/rocks; small items in containers; no construction debris; no hazardous waste, liquids, tires, batteries, paints, or carcasses.

🚧 Overnight Water Service Interruption TONIGHT

Beginning at midnight tonight, water service will be temporarily shut off for a limited area.

Crews will be connecting a new section of water line as part of the water line improvement project at the Newcastle Sports Complex.

What to expect:
• Water service will be unavailable from Eagle Lakes to Highway 76 for approximately 4–6 hours.
• Eagle Lakes itself is not expected to be affected.
• Residents in Pulchella and along Highway 76 north of Richland Park may experience low water pressure during the work.

Crews expect to complete the work in about 4 hours, but service restoration could take up to 6 hours if unexpected conditions are encountered.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these necessary improvements to Newcastle’s water system.
