*** MM 50 FIRE UPDATE 8/14/2026***

The Mile Marker 50 Fire upriver from Orofino is 100% contained. Highway 12 has been opened fully.

*** MM 50 FIRE UPDATE***

The Mile Marker 50 Fire upriver from Orofino was held at 7 acres overnight. Highway 12 has been opened to 1 lane, alternating traffic with a pilot car. Travelers are advised to check in with Idaho 511 and the Idaho Transportation Department for any highway closure or reopening updates. Fire lines and hose lays are most of the way around the fire. One hand crew and 5 engines are to remain on the fire today to secure it and begin mop-up operations

*Update*
Per the Idaho Transportation Department the highway will have one lane open and they will have pilot cars to lead vehicles.

There is an active fire near mile marker 51 on Highway 12. At this time for the safety of the public and responders Highway 12 will be closed from the Lewis County Line to Greer Bridge. Fire personel are on scene and are activly engaged in supression efforts.

As you enjoy the parades, backyard BBQs, and fireworks, your Lewis County Sheriff’s Office deputies are out on patrol keeping our roads, waterways, and communities secure.

This Memorial Day we honor the profound legacy of America’s fallen service members.
True freedom is a gift bought by the courage of those who never made it home. Today, we pause to remember their sacrifice, honor their bravery, and stand in solidarity with the families they left behind.
Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repay, but we can choose to never forget.
May we all live lives worthy of their sacrifice. Have a safe, respectful, and meaningful Memorial Day.

Please be aware of a fraudulent "Court Enforcement Action" notice circulating in our community. This is a scam designed to steal your personal information and money.

🚩 Why this is a scam:
Contradicting Locations: The document features the "State of Idaho" seal but claims to be from a court in St. Louis County, Missouri. Official court documents will never jump between two different states like this.

Suspicious QR Codes: Legitimate courts will not ask you to scan a QR code to "settle an unpaid balance."
Incorrect Notification Method: The Lewis County Courts will NEVER notify you of a hearing, warrant, or legal action via text message or unsolicited email attachments.

When minutes matter most, they are the first ones to answer the call. Today, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible team at the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Communications Center.

Behind every siren and every patrol car is a Dispatcher—the steady, calm voice on the other end of the line. While they may never be seen on the scene, they are the heartbeat of public safety.

They manage radio traffic, track deputy locations, and give life-saving instructions all at once.

They turn chaos into coordinates, ensuring help gets exactly where it needs to go.

They are the lifeline for our deputies, making sure every officer goes home safe at the end of their shift.

To our Lewis County dispatchers: thank you for your resilience, your professionalism, and for being the light in someone’s darkest hour. We see you, we appreciate you, and we couldn't do this without you.
