🏆 OCEAN VIEW POLICE DEPARTMENT EARNS ELITE STATUS FROM LEXIPOL FOR POLICY MANAGEMENT AND TRAINING

The Ocean View Police Department is proud to announce that it has been awarded Elite Status in the 2025 Lexipol Readiness Recognition Program for both Policy Management and Training.

Elite Status is the highest level of recognition awarded by Lexipol and reflects an agency's commitment to maintaining current policies, ensuring employee accountability, delivering quality training, and promoting operational readiness.

This achievement places the Ocean View Police Department among an elite group of public safety agencies nationwide that have demonstrated excellence in policy development, policy review, policy acknowledgment, and ongoing professional training.

Strong policies and consistent training are essential to effective policing. They help ensure that our officers remain current with changes in the law, emerging best practices, and evolving public safety challenges. This commitment supports transparency, accountability, risk reduction, and the professional delivery of police services to our community.

Chief Kenneth McLaughlin stated:

"This recognition is a direct reflection of the professionalism and dedication of every member of the Ocean View Police Department. Our officers and staff work hard every day to maintain the highest standards of training, policy compliance, and public service. I am extremely proud of their efforts and grateful for their commitment to protecting and serving the residents and visitors of Ocean View."

The Ocean View Police Department remains committed to continuous improvement and to providing the highest level of professional police services to our community.

It's that time of the year again!

Members of OVPD are joining together with other officers from throughout the state for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Delaware (SODE), and we could use YOUR help in supporting our SODE athletes!

The Eastern Leg of the run will be June 10, 2026 from 3:30PM - 7:00PM. It will go along Route 1 starting Fenwick Island ending Rehoboth Beach. The funds we raise benefit the athletes in SODE by providing all of their activities and equipment at NO COST to them! These are some of the greatest athletes in the world, and OVPD is proud to support them as they head toward the 2026 Summer Games.

Please consider donating to our team page to help us show our support to Special Olympics Delaware!

During this National Police Week, the men and women of the Ocean View Police Department ask our community to continue to keep all law enforcement officers — active, retired, and fallen — in your thoughts and prayers.

Every day, police officers across Delaware and throughout our nation put on the uniform and answer the call to serve others. They respond to emergencies, protect our neighborhoods, comfort victims, and stand ready to face danger so others may remain safe. Behind every badge is a family that also sacrifices in service to our communities.

This week, we proudly recognize and thank all active and retired law enforcement officers for their dedication, courage, professionalism, and years of honorable service. Your commitment to protecting others has made a lasting difference in countless lives.

We also pause to remember the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their bravery and legacy will never be forgotten.

Please take a moment this week to show your support for law enforcement officers everywhere. A prayer, a kind word, or a simple “thank you” means more than you know.

May God continue to bless and protect our law enforcement officers, first responders, military personnel, and the United States of America.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT – FAKE COURT NOTICE ⚠️

The Ocean View Police Department has been made aware of a fraudulent document circulating in our community that appears to be an official notice from the State of Delaware Justice of the Peace Court regarding alleged unpaid traffic violations, toll violations, or court enforcement actions.

This document is FAKE and appears to be part of a scam.

The notice may include:
✅ Threats of license suspension
✅ Demands for immediate payment
✅ QR codes directing you to make payment
✅ References to court action or collections

Please be advised: Do not scan the QR code, do not send payment, and do not provide personal information.

Scammers often create documents that appear official in an attempt to frighten people into making quick payments.

If you receive a suspicious notice, letter, text message, or email related to fines, court actions, toll violations, or similar matters:

📞 Contact the Ocean View Police Department at 302-539-1111 before taking any action.

You may also verify court-related matters directly through the Delaware Justice of the Peace Court system.

Please share this post to help protect friends, family members, and neighbors—especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams.

🚑🚓 OVPD Officers Honored for Saving Lives 🚓🚑

The Ocean View Police Department is proud to share that several of our officers were recently recognized by Sussex County EMS as members of the Phoenix Club—a prestigious life-saving award program.

The Phoenix Club honors first responders who play a direct role in giving someone a second chance at life through rapid response, CPR, defibrillation, and coordinated emergency care.

At this year’s Life Saving Awards Ceremony, OVPD officers were recognized for their actions in critical moments when seconds mattered most. As noted on the official award certificates, recipients are honored “for giving a resident or visitor a second chance at life.”

👏 Please join us in congratulating our officers for this outstanding achievement!

* Lieutenant Mark Burton
* Sergeant Rhys Bradshaw
* Corporal Conner Watkins
* Officer First Class Dylan Murphy
* Officer Tara Mazza

💡 What This Means for Ocean View

This recognition highlights something very important for our community:

Your support of the Ocean View Police Department helps save lives.

OVPD officers respond to all emergency medical calls within the Town of Ocean View alongside the Millville Volunteer Fire Company and Sussex County EMS.

Because our officers are on patrol 24/7, they are often:

✅ The first to arrive on scene
✅ Delivering care within 3–4 minutes of dispatch
✅ Providing life-saving treatment before EMS arrival

All OVPD officers are trained in advanced lifesaving techniques, and every patrol vehicle is equipped with essential medical equipment—including AEDs (defibrillators).

🤝 A True Team Effort

These life-saving outcomes are the result of strong partnerships between:

Ocean View Police Department

Millville Volunteer Fire Company

Sussex County EMS

Working together, we ensure the highest level of care for our residents and visitors.

❤️ Thank You

Congratulations to all of this year’s Phoenix Club award recipients!

And most importantly, thank you to the citizens of Ocean View for your continued support. Your investment in your police department makes a real difference when it matters most.
