⚠️PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY⚠️

👍🏻 A “rule of thumb” guide to refrigerated foods after a power outage.

🌡️KEEP THE DOORS to refrigerators and freezers CLOSED. Typically, refrigerators may be able to hold temperature at 40 F or below for up to four (4) hours.

🥩Items such as meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, and left overs, if above 41 F may need to be disposed in as little as 2 hours. Odors and slimy texture may be indicators of spoilage in these items.

🍎Fresh, uncut fruits and vegetables are safe so long as they are still firm and there is no evidence of mold or slime. Sliced fruits and vegetables should be disposed after 4 hours.

🧀Dairy items such as milk and cheese should be disposed after 4 hours. Hard and/or processed cheeses need not be disposed.

🧊 Items in a FREEZER may be safe for a few days. Do NOT open the freezer if possible. When the power is restored, if the food is still frozen or partially frozen (food still contains ice crystals) and is less than 40 degrees F, it is safe to re-freeze them. If the items completely thaw and are above 40 F for 2 hours or more, they should be disposed.
