What an incredible day at the 2nd Deputy Ed Smith Memorial Sarpy County Middle School Summer Academy.

We had 35 amazing students bring their energy and enthusiasm to a packed day of hands-on, educational camp activities.

It was a whirlwind of information, learning, and fun, and these kids absolutely crushed it.

A massive thank you goes out to the Papillon Police Department for all their help, with a special shoutout to Phil, Andy, and Bryan. You guys are awesome.

Our morning was jam-packed with interactive stations. The students got an up-close look at the SWAT team, Gretna Fire, Bellevue motorcycle patrol, Omaha horse patrol, Crisis Negotiations, Search & Rescue, Henry the Therapy Dog and Nebraska Game and Parks.

The excitement kept building right into the afternoon with some truly unforgettable highlights. The kids got to experience the Nebraska State Patrol Helicopter, a thrilling Sarpy K9 demonstration, and an awesome look at the latest drone technology.

We also want to give a huge shoutout and thank you to Papio Stores and the 84th Street Dairy Queen for their incredibly generous donations. Community support like yours is what makes events like this possible.

Thank you to everyone who made this day a massive success for our local youth. We are already looking forward to the next one Sarpy County, NebraskaPapillion Police DepartmentGretna Fire DepartmentNebraska Game and Parks CommissionBellevue (Nebraska) Police DepartmentNebraska State Patrol

The 35 campers at the Deputy Ed Smith Memorial Sarpy County Middle School Summer Academy had an incredible day rotating through hands-on learning stations.

Students learned a massive amount in a short time across several unique tracks.

Crisis Negotiation: Campers practiced communication and de-escalation skills.

Omaha Police Horse Patrol: Students interacted with mounted units and learned about crowd control with the horses.

Bellevue Motorcycle Patrol: Campers explored specialized tactical bikes used for community navigation.

Papillion Fire Department: Firefighters demonstrated advanced rescue tactics and truck operations.

Air and Tech Units: Campers watched the Nebraska State Patrol helicopter and Sarpy’s tactical drone teams in action.

K9 Unit: Highly trained canine teams demonstrated their tracking and detection skills.

SWAT Operations: Campers got an inside look at tactical equipment, gear, and teamwork strategies.

Nebraska Game and Parks: Officers provided presentations on wildlife conservation and outdoor safety.

A big thank you to Rachael's team at Walmart for their generous donation, and Justin from Hawaiian Bros for providing plates for our staff. Today, the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office were honored to join the Papillion Fire Department at the InnerWork Autism Network's sensory-friendly community event for children and families impacted by autism at their 9805 Giles Road.

This special "Touch-a-Truck" style event gave kids the opportunity to safely explore emergency vehicles, meet first responders, and enjoy hands-on experiences in a calm, welcoming, and supportive environment designed with their needs in mind.

Deputy Dave Nathan loved seeing so many smiles, curious questions, and meaningful interactions throughout the day.
Events like these help build connections, foster understanding, and create positive experiences between first responders and the communities we serve.

A big thank you to InnerWork Autism Network for hosting such an incredible event and to all the families who joined us. We look forward to seeing you again soon! Sarpy County, Nebraska

A massive thank you and special spotlight goes to Erin, the Marketing Director for Shadow Lake Town Center, and Pam, the Local Store Marketer for Texas Roadhouse! Their hard work and dedication provide our community with an incredible, wonderful family event all summer long, and tonight was the perfect example of that. We are so incredibly grateful for everything they do to make these Friday nights UNFORGETTABLE.

The Summer Concert Series, Music and Memories, officially kicked off tonight and will run every Friday night through August 7th at the Texas Roadhouse Amphitheater, proudly sponsored by iHeartRadio.
Tonight's show is officially in the books, and the award-winning, Omaha-based rock cover band Radio EClectic absolutely brought the house down. They proved exactly why they are known for delivering a high-energy mix of classic and contemporary rock hits from the '60s through the 2000s.

Thanks again to Erin and Pam for making this fantastic kickoff happen! Sarpy County TourismSarpy ScannerSarpy County, Nebraska
