The Pasadena ISD Police Department mourns the tragic loss of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero, who was killed in the line of duty yesterday.

During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

It is with great sadness that DPS announces the death of Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was attempting to conduct a traffic stop along US-287 near Childress, around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, when a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled out in front of him, causing his patrol unit to collide with the vehicle. Trooper Romero died on scene.

Trooper Romero answered the call to serve each day with honor and remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting and serving Texans. The DPS family will never forget the ultimate sacrifice he made in service of this state.

On Sunday, our Police Department Honor Guard had the privilege of representing our agency at the Tunnel to Towers Foundation 25th Anniversary event at Space City Houston.
Standing among fellow first responders, we honored the legacy of courage, sacrifice, and service that continues to inspire generations.

At the 72nd Annual Heroes Awards, the 100 Club honored first responders who exemplify what it means to serve and protect.

Congratulations to Officer Juan A. Cruz, who was named 2026 Officer of the Year by the 100 Club. His tireless work stopped a serious threat before lives were lost—an example of what it truly means to answer the call.

In all seriousness, we’re here keeping things safe while families celebrate some big accomplishments. If you hear “last call” over the mic, don’t worry—it’s not for diplomas, it’s probably just Officer Trevino asking where the nearest coffee is. ☕😂
