Atkinson County Schools is aware of social media posts circulating in surrounding communities regarding school safety. We understand these posts may cause concern, and we want to keep our families, staff, and community informed.

𝐀𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞, 𝐀𝐭𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐝, 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝, 𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐮𝐬.

For additional awareness, we are also sharing the message posted by Jeff Davis County Schools regarding similar concerns in their area. While we want our families to be aware of what is being reported in surrounding communities, we have received no information indicating that Atkinson County Schools is involved or has been specifically identified.

We remain in communication with local law enforcement and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and will continue monitoring the situation closely.

Please avoid sharing unverified rumors or social media posts, as inaccurate information can create unnecessary fear and confusion. If you see, hear, or receive anything concerning, please report it directly to school administration or law enforcement.

If you see something, say something.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. If we receive information that directly impacts Atkinson County Schools, we will notify families and staff as quickly as possible through our official communication channels.

We apologize for the late notification, but we want to make you aware of a social media trend regarding school safety that was brought to our attention late this evening.

Based on the initial information we have received, the trend appears to have originated in another state and has since been modified to reference our area. We have been in contact with local law enforcement this evening, and they are aware of the situation. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased law enforcement presence at our schools tomorrow.

At this time, we have not received any reports indicating that this message is circulating within our county. However, we ask that if you see or hear anything concerning, please report it immediately to school or district administration or local law enforcement.

While we do not want to create unnecessary alarm, we take every message or concern regarding school safety seriously. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we appreciate the continued support and vigilance of our families and community

Please take a moment to check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal:

1. Log in to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal
2. Click the person icon in the top right corner
3. Select Settings
4. Select Contact Preferences
5. Scroll down and make sure your phone number and email address are correct
6. Under your contact preferences, CHECK ALL AVAILABLE BOXES for how you would like to be contacted
7. Be sure to Save your changes

FROM OUR HEARTS, THANK YOU, AMBER & JO’S CAFÉ!

After a difficult and scary day for our school community, a little kindness meant more than words can say.

Amber, owner of Jo’s Café, reached out wanting to do something special for our Atkinson County School System employees. Out of the goodness of her heart, she offered to treat 10 ACSS employees to a free breakfast or drink of their choice—simply because she wanted them to know they were thought of and appreciated.

And then her kindness began to spread.

Satilla Country Junction heard about Amber’s idea and generously offered to treat 10 more employees. Then, an anonymous donor joined in and treated another 10.

What started with Amber wanting to brighten someone’s day turned into 30 ACSS employees being reminded that their community cares about them.

Amber, we hope you know how much your thoughtfulness means to us. You saw that our school family had been through a hard day and chose to reach out with kindness. Even more special, your generosity inspired others to do the same.

We are also incredibly thankful to Satilla Country Junction and our anonymous donor for joining in and showing our employees so much love.

In the hard moments, it means everything to know you have people standing beside you. We are truly grateful for a community that cares for our schools, supports our employees, and shows up when it matters most.

If you see something, say something.

We are asking everyone to help us keep our schools safe.

If you see or receive a concerning message, post, video, comment, or threat involving our schools, students, or staff, please report it right away. Don’t assume someone else has already reported it. What may seem like a small detail could be important.

Any safety concerns or new information we receive are being shared with local law enforcement and the GBI.

We are thankful for our students, families, staff, community members, and law enforcement who continue to look out for one another.

Please stay alert, speak up, and help us keep our schools safe.

This safety update has already been shared with families through Infinite Campus. However, we understand that not everyone has an Infinite Campus Parent Portal account or uses Facebook.

We are asking for our community’s help in making sure this important information reaches as many families as possible.
