Compact COMPACT: a collaborative community initiative designed to address substance misuse and mental health

COMPACT’s goal is to assist families across Shelby County by providing them with up-to-date information and available resources to guide teens back to a substance-free, happy, healthy lifestyle without entering the juvenile justice system. The team is implementing strategies aimed at reducing substance misuse and promoting mental wellness by:
• raising awareness & educating citizens on risk factor

s;
• identifying at-risk youth and building mentor relationships with students;
• promoting available resources
• implementing new prevention strategies; and
• using community-based law enforcement approaches. COMPACT’s volunteer led prevention teams educate, engage, and empower their local communities. The teams include representatives from different sectors of the community including youth, parents, schools, businesses, media, law enforcement, local government, faith-based organizations, healthcare, and civic organizations. COMPACT’s page serves as a government speech forum intended to communicate information to the public. Last week, four of our COMPACT officers had the honor of participating in the Shelby County leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Supporting Special Olympics is something our team is proud to do throughout the year, and being a Guardians of The Flame of Hope alongside fellow law enforcement officers is always a meaningful experience.

The Torch Run is more than a run, it's a symbol of inclusion, determination, and the incredible achievement of Special Olympics athletes.

We are grateful everyday for the opportunity to support our communities. Being included with this outstanding organization and their athletes, inspire us all every day.

Hey Pelham friends!
Introducing COMPACT's latest addition. The incredible Pelham PD Officer Callie Flores!

Detective Flores joined the COMPACT unit in May 2026 from the Pelham Police Department and is assigned to assist the Pelham City Schools. She began her law enforcement career in Georgia with the Gwinnett County Police Department. While serving on patrol, she built a strong foundation in policing, public service, and community engagement. Detective Flores later continued her career in Alabama with the Pleasant Grove Police Department and served on patrol. While serving there, she attended SWAT school which enhanced her training in high-risk operations, teamwork, and critical incident response.

Detective Flores holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Strategic Intelligence from Liberty University. This educational background has strengthened her ability to think critically, assess complex situations, and contribute effectively in high pressure environments.

Although much of her career has focused on the tactical side of law enforcement, she has a strong passion for mental health advocacy and mentoring youth. Detective Flores believes effective policing goes beyond enforcement alone and includes building relationships, supporting individuals through difficult circumstances, and positively influencing the next generation. He goal has always been to serve not only as a protector of the community, but also as someone who can make a lasting and meaningful impact on the lives of others.

Please give her a warm welcome Pelham!

Hey Pelham friends!
Bittersweet news for COMPACT!

Our amazing Officer Adam Schniper is heading back to Pelham City Schools full-time as an SRO next school year. While we’ll definitely miss having him with COMPACT every day, we know the students and staff are gaining one of the very best.

The good news? He’s not getting away from us completely — we’re excited he’ll still be helping with Camp Journey this summer!

Thank you, Adam, for your dedication, heart, and the impact you’ve made on so many youth and families. 💙

Let's talk about sextortion.
Digital device safety starts at home.
If your children have a digital device, you need to be aware that sextortion of minors does happen here in Alabama.

In April 2026, a Florida man was sentenced to federal prison for sextortion of minors in Alabama. He posed as a teenage female and sent explicit images and videos to teens and requested them in return, then exploited and manipulated those teens.

You can read the press release from the US Attorney's Office here:

Digital device safety starts at home. Please have the convo!

April didn’t slow us down one bit!

As the school year winds down, our COMPACT officers are still going strong and showing up for our community every single day.

Here’s what April looked like:
• 37 new referrals
• 85 follow-ups with youth we’re already assisting
• 93 presentations delivered
• 123 families supported through meetings and contact
• 3,511 youth reached in our community

We’re proud of the work, grateful for the partnerships, and ready to keep going strong through the end of the school year.

What did YOU do in April? 👀

End of the year - Peer Helper Celebration.
These students worked hard all year at Simmons Middle School in Hoover. They assisted fellow students by acting as mentors, role models, and fostering connection among their peers.

We are not sure whose smile is bigger, the students' or COMPACT Investigator Jamelle Allen's. What a great group to celebrate!

Click PLAY. Field Day was a SPLASH!
Mission accomplished: making kids smile!
COMPACT officer and Helena PD Detective Jason Davis enjoyed being a part of field day at Helena Intermediate School last week. Someone snapped a pic and AI generated the cartoon and animation. Amazingly it still captured how much fun he had. Confident going in, shocked on the way down, and completely soaked in the end. He loved every minute of it.
