Activities include fishing, water skiing, wake boarding, paddle boarding, and camping. The Rockport area was colonized in 1860. It was named for the rock fort built to protect settlers from Indian uprisings. About 200 people lived there until the land was purchased in 1957 by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for construction of the Wanship Dam. Rockport Reservoir is about three miles long and one-ha

lf mile wide. At an elevation of over 6,000 feet, it covers more than 500 acres. Many wildlife species call Rockport home. They include mule deer, chipmunks, jackrabbits, cottontails, yellowbelly marmots, badgers, raccoons, weasels, fox and Uinta ground squirrels. Elk, moose, coyote, bobcat and cougar live in the area, but are seldom seen. Rockport State Park opened to the public as a state park in 1966. Page Expectations and Guidelines:

August 10, 2026 - Rockport Reservoir is now open for boat access. Please be aware that conditions remain dynamic, and the reservoir may be re-closed on short notice if operational or safety needs arise.

Echo Reservoir remains strictly closed to all watercraft and public access.

⚠ WATER ACCESS RESTRICTED ⚠

UPDATE: August 10, 2026 1 - Rockport Reservoir is now OPEN for boat access.

August 9, 2026 – Helicopters have begun pulling water from Rockport State Park to assist emergency crews fighting the nearby Rocky Canyon fire.

Water & Operations Restrictions:
- Water Access: Visitors are strictly prohibited from going past the shoreline while fire operations are underway.
- Boat Ramps: All boat ramps are temporarily closed until further notice.

The park remains open and operational for land-based activities.

Fire conditions remain dynamic and can shift rapidly. For public safety and emergency operational efficiency, please adhere strictly to all posted closures and keep clear of the water to give incoming aircraft space to operate safely.

On Military Appreciation Day, we want to say thank you to all active-duty military members, veterans, and their families for your dedication and sacrifice.

As a small token of our gratitude, all active-duty military members, veterans, and their families traveling in the same vehicle will receive free day-use entry to Rockport State Park on Saturday, August 8.

Looking for something different to do this Saturday night? Come spend the evening under the stars at Rockport State Park!

Our Star Party begins at 10:00 PM at the Highland Day Use upper parking lot(200 yard north of the marina and main office on the left hand side). Whether you're an experienced stargazer or simply enjoy a peaceful night outdoors, everyone is welcome.

Bring a chair or blanket, dress for the cool evening temperatures, and enjoy one of Utah's premier dark sky locations. We look forward to seeing you Saturday night!

Beginning June 6 at 12:01 a.m., a Stage 1 Fire Restriction Order & Fireworks Restriction Order will take effect on unincorporated private & state lands in Summit County.
