Ahead of Memorial Day, personnel executed the "Murph" Challenge, a workout that has become a sacred tradition in the Warfighter and fitness community to honor Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who made the ultimate sacrifice on June 28, 2005, during a fierce firefight in the Kunar Province in Afghanistan.

“This year holds a unique significance. It marks the 21st anniversary of his heroic death. Think of that––21 years. In military tradition, there is no higher honor than the 21-gun salute, a tribute reserved for our nation's most revered heroes. Let each rep of this workout be a shot fired in that salute. Let our effort be the thunder that echoes his legacy,” said Sgt. Maj. Chad Stackpole, USSPACECOM commandant.

Thank you USSF Combat Forces Command for clearing things up. While CFC's mission is vital, is a separate organization –– a combatant command –– which includes all service members from across the Joint Force, not just USSF Guardians. And, while we have enjoyed our time in Colorado alongside CFC, we are ensuring an expeditious and professional transition to Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.

The Glowbug-2 mission is expected to last a year, with the possibility of extensions based on performance and station requirements.

"The NRL team also plans to collaborate with other concurrent Space Test Program payloads," said Richard Woolf, Ph.D., NRL mission manager and co-investigator for Glowbug-2. "When Glowbug-2 detects an event, the team can alert other instruments on orbit to review their data for simultaneous measurements, enhancing the collective scientific output of the mission." 👇
