Most Free Library locations will close at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, and will remain closed through the weekend in observance of Independence Day.

Twelve neighborhood libraries will serve as Cooling Centers, open 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day through Sunday, July 5.

Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional Library is serving as a Cooling Center with extended hours during this heat wave.

In response to forecast maximum heat index values approaching 110°F, Health Commissioner Dr. Palak Raval-Nelson has issued a Heat Health Emergency in Philadelphia. This designation began at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and has been extended until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, though it may be extended if the forecast worsens.

The Joseph E. Coleman Northwest Regional is serving as a Cooling Center. The 1st floor of the Regional Library will be open 10:00 am - 7:00 pm tomorrow, Wednesday July 1st, and from 9:00 am - 7:00 pm from Thursday, July 2nd through Saturday, July 4th, with the possibility of Sunday hours should the heatwave continue.
