A good morning in Ahwatukee as Representative Greg Stanton and I announced a $850,000 investment to modernize Phoenix Fire Department Station 46. This will help upgrade the dorms so our firefighters can get better sleep to be ready to answer emergency calls. Thankful for Rep. Stanton’s partnership.

Welcome news: the state budget pauses sales tax credits for new data centers.

Neighborhood coffee shops shouldn’t pay higher tax rates than data centers. This revenue supports services like Phoenix Fire Department.

Bring Your Child to Work Day is one of the best days of the year at City Hall. Many kids got a firsthand look at the work their parents do to serve our community, and my son especially enjoyed seeing the fire truck. 🚒

Chief Ruben Ortega, the first Hispanic Phoenix Police Department chief, led our police department with professionalism and integrity and I’m grateful that he made fighting domestic violence one of his highest priorities. We are thankful for him and his service to our community.

We are saddened to share the passing of former Phoenix Police Chief Ruben B. Ortega.

Chief Ortega joined the department in 1960, was appointed Chief on February 25, 1980 and led the organization until his retirement on June 11, 1991. Under his leadership, the department earned CALEA accreditation, and his impact extended nationwide. He served as president of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the Commission on Model State Drug Laws and contributed to federal efforts addressing domestic violence. His legacy lives on through the many leaders he mentored, including police chiefs who went on to serve major cities across the country.

602 Day was a blast. I enjoyed visiting so many businesses across our city. During all of it though, something extra fun emerged.

A community member at the Phoenix Zoo gifted me a 602 Day rock, and I brought it to Fair Trade Cafe. They passed along a coffee for the Arizona Science Center, and from there, a gift chain took off.
