We stumbled upon this poor, defenseless aluminum can today on the trail. Left all alone. Naturally, we adopted it on the spot and are giving it a forever home (in the recycling bin).

But seriously, our beautiful Arizona trails and parks aren’t trash cans! National Trails Day is the perfect time to remind you how to keep clean:

🎒 Pack it in, Pack it out: If you brought it with you, it leaves with you.
🗑️ The "+1 Rule": Bring a small baggie on your hikes. Pick up your own trash, plus one other piece!
🥾 Stick to Trails: Going off-trail can create “social trails” which lead to erosion, runoff, and damage

Happy ! 🌵

At ADEQ, we believe protecting our planet starts with education. That’s why we engage students from across Arizona in hands-on environmental learning.

Through classroom visits or field trips to our agency, students are able to explore the importance of clean air, safe water, and healthy land. From testing water quality to learning how to reduce waste, we offer a variety of ways to spark curiosity and inspire action!

💡 Why does this matter? Because the next generation will shape the future of our environment. When we empower students with knowledge and tools, we’re planting the seeds for a healthier, more sustainable Arizona.

2,500+ POUNDS of trash cleaned up at the Salt River 😮

ADEQ Joined the amazing Salty Scuba Squad team and over 50 volunteers to clean up the Salt River following the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Together, we picked up trash from the surrounding land, off the water's surface, and even underwater! The Salty Scuba Squad dove down to the river bed to clean up submerged items, including nearly 40 phones (some still working and successfully returned to their owners) and lost wallets.

We found everything from vapes, cans, and chip bags to shoes, sunglasses and more 😥

Remember: Pack out what you pack in. Our environment, wildlife, and community deserve better. Let’s keep Arizona beautiful. ♻️

Huge shoutout to the team who made this happen:
