Today, the Pineville Fire Department responded on a mutual aid assignment to a working structure fire in the Carolina Fire District.
Pineville 12 (Assistant Chief Porter) arrived first due and reported smoke showing from a one-story residence. Engine 2 arrived shortly after and deployed an attack line to begin fire suppression. Rescue 8 was assigned primary search due to reports of a possible trapped occupant, while Pineville 10 (Deputy Chief Klemowicz) assumed fire attack operations.
During suppression efforts, two firefighters fell through a weakened section of the floor into the crawl space, prompting a MAYDAY. At the same time, Rescue 8 located an unconscious victim and successfully removed the individual from the home. Carolina Engine 1 was performing top-side ventilation throughout these operations. Pineville Engine 1 established a water supply.
Crews quickly deployed an attic ladder and safely rescued both firefighters from the crawl space, allowing the MAYDAY to be cleared shortly thereafter. Additional mutual aid companies arrived to complete fireground assignments, and the fire was brought under control.
One civilian was transported by Medic to a local hospital. The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office, along with the Pineville Police Department, is investigating the cause of the fire.
