Having completed her SJD degree at Pitt Law just a few weeks ago, Laras will return to her faculty position at Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia after the graduation ceremony.

We are extremely proud of Dr. Laras Susanti who today successfully defended her SJD dissertation, Islamic Constitutionalism in a Multiconfessional State: The Indonesian Constitutional Court and the Marriage Law. Laras has worked very hard over the past four years, not only conducting research and writing this dissertation, but also participating in conferences and presenting guest lessons. In two weeks, she will present her research at the National SJD Roundtable at American University. Laras has been a constant delightful presence in the law library over the years and we will miss her very much when she returns to her job on the faculty at Universitas Gadja Mada. https://acadstaff.ugm.ac.id/Laras

"On March 8, 1971, four people broke into the FBI field office in Media, Pennsylvania and stole more than 1,000 classified documents. It was the night of the “Fight of the Century” boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier and most people, including the police, were absorbed in the live radio broadcast. The four burglars escaped with the documents unwitnessed, and were never caught. In the weeks that followed, documents were mailed anonymously to newspapers around the country from an organization calling itself the Citizens’ Commission to Investigate the FBI, revealing the existence of a secret illegal surveillance operation that the FBI was conducting against American citizens."
