United Way of Southeastern Idaho

United Way of Southeastern Idaho Get to know UWSEI! From our discount prescription program to our work building others' capacity to serve critical roles, UWSEI delivers on its promise to catalyze diverse sectors of the community for positive change.
Formed in 1954, the United Way of Southeastern Idaho (UWSEI) is guided by a talented, committed team of thirty unpaid volunteer Board members whose passion is to ensure that Southeastern Idahoans and our neighbors in the world beyond have the best lives they can. Investments in UWSEI have a ROI that goes far beyond the hard numbers of which we are justifiably proud. Invest in an ever-brighter future as we work together to strengthen conditions today and to develop tomorrow's leaders.

A big thanks to the @cityofpocatello and Mayor Brian Blad for having us out at his all department head meeting this morning to share our work in preparation for the City's United Way giving campaign. Last year, over 125 City employees contributed a combined $20.5k for our community. We are so thankful for our partnership with the City and for all the pride they put into making this a great place to live!

We are so excited to welcome our Idaho State University Career Pathways Intern, Sam Winslow. The career pathways internship program is a great program that connects ISU students with meaningful, real-world opportunities to build their professional skills. This fits in perfectly with our Cradle-to-Career work to elevate the conversation in our community around providing pathways toward professional success in our region. If your business or organization would like to host a career pathway intern from ISU, message us and we can connect you to the right place at ISU!

We asked Sam to introduce herself to the community with a note below. Welcome, Sam!:

Hello, I’m Samantha Winslow!

I am from Twin Falls, Idaho and I am currently a junior at Idaho State University. I’m pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and minoring in Informatics.

I currently work as a Graphic Design CPI at United Way and I also work at Mocha Madness as a barista.

One thing I like to do in my free time is something that is also a huge passion of mine. I love portrait photography, I have been doing this for about two years now. I believe everyone is beautiful in their own way but sometimes they need help in seeing it. Cliche, I know, but it’s something many people struggle with and I like to help them see the beauty within themselves through my style of photography.

In my free time I also love to go hiking, play Smash Bros with my friends, meet new people, paint, and volunteer at local children’s organizations.

I believe it is important to volunteer when I can, I like giving back to my community. I feel like giving back to the community is important because it can help strengthen the community, it can help solve issues that people face (poverty and any other types of struggling), it helps you grow as a person, and it feels good to give back.

Today, along with partners Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (which covers Idaho), we hosted a forum for employers in our area on the importance of high quality early education and child care options. Not only does this improve outcomes for kids but can also improve a business's employee retention and bottom line when working parents have solid and affordable options available to them.

Here's Felice moderating a panel with our partners from American Falls who helped create a local solution to expanding high quality preschool seats in their community.

And thanks to Martin Balben for his presentation on the latest data statewide on early education!

This afternoon we kicked off our Preschool the Idaho Way rollout in American Falls. Over the last few months we have been facilitating a group to create a plan to expand high quality preschool seats in the community thanks to a grant from the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children. Our goal is that every child has the resources available to enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

Partners in this planning process have included the American Falls School District, existing preschool providers, parents, city government, Health West, Inc., Lamb Weston, Driscoll Brothers Farms, and other community partners.

Here's a couple photos of American Falls Superintendent Randy Jensen sharing the vision to create a more successful future for all children in the community. Our Preschool the Idaho Way planning coincides nicely with the District's "Read, Talk, Play Everyday" initiative. Look for Read, Talk, Play T-shirts and signs around American Falls encouraging parents to talk an active role in their child's 0-5 development!

Purposity - Your Tool for Good

Please take a moment to help our local Pocatello/Chubbuck School District 25 with a new initiative they are launching to help connect your desire to help meet students' needs!

The school district is rolling out the use of the Purposity app that lets the community know when there is a learner or family that is in need of help with a specific item. Then the community (you!) who have downloaded the app will be able to quickly select items to purchase for students in need (e.g. school shoes).

Here's a quick video that shows how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGX3zSwEW0c

The district needs 300 community members to download the app and follow them on the app in order for them to be able to set up their own page!
