As I travel across Connecticut, the story is the same: skyrocketing property taxes are driving seniors from the homes they love and squeezing our small business owners. Residents are being forced to tighten their belts, while the state government refuses to do the same.

I was proud to stand with Ryan Fazio for Governor, Matt Corey CT, and other state leaders to address this property tax crisis and the crushing burden of unfunded state mandates on our cities and towns.

Connecticut has over 1,400 state mandates impacting our municipalities. When Hartford passes these requirements without funding them, local taxpayers are left holding the bill.

Local leaders understand their budgets better than bureaucrats in Hartford. As your next State Comptroller, and as the former Westport First Selectwoman, I will use my platform and working knowledge to expose the true cost of these mandates and demand the fiscal accountability our towns deserve. Good government starts with accountable finances.

Today we honor and celebrate 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Today, we honor a pivotal day in our nation’s history. Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. It is a day to celebrate our nation’s greatest founding principle – freedom.

Under the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, the Emancipation Proclamation took effect in 1863, declaring enslaved people in the Confederacy to be free. Over the next two years, Union troops worked to enforce it, and slavery was formally abolished nationwide with the 13th Amendment in 1865.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, commemorates June 19, 1865, the date on which Union General Gordon Granger read federal orders in Galveston, TX, announcing that all enslaved people in Texas, the most remote part of the former Confederacy, were free.
