Child Action

Child Action We're a non-profit empowering families and child care professionals with the tools and support services needed to successfully care for children since 1976.

We believe that parents are best able to choose the child care that meets their particular family situation. It is our goal to provide parents with information on a broad range of child care services, as well as ways to assess these services. We can provide information about child care and child development services as it is available, but we do not make recommendations. The choice of care remains with the parent. We are not responsible for arrangements between parents and providers.

Access to resources starts with access to trusted community spaces.

That's why Child Action is partnering with North Sacramento Family Resource Center to connect families in the Arden area with child care and family support services where they already turn for help and information.

Through this co-location partnership, families can connect with Child Action staff for:

✔️ Child care subsidy applications
✔️ Child care referrals
✔️ CalWORKs, CalFresh, and Medi-Cal application support

📍 North Sacramento Family Resource Center
📅 Every Tuesday
🕐 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

By bringing services together under one roof, we're helping reduce barriers, strengthen community connections, and make it easier for families to access the support they need.

Child care should support families, not outdated paperwork.

Our co-sponsored legislation, SB 902 (Grayson), is one step closer to becoming law after passing the California Senate and advancing to the Assembly Human Services Committee.

By expanding the use of electronic signatures, SB 902 helps modernize child care systems, reduce administrative barriers, and make services easier for families and providers to access.

Thank you to Senator Tim Grayson for championing this effort and to our fellow co-sponsors for their partnership: Thriving Families CA, CDA, Go Kids,Inc., Hively Alameda County, KinderCare Learning Centers, and BANANAS.

Strong communities are built through collaboration, connection, and access to essential resources.

Recently, our team attended the ribbon-cutting celebration for the Rancho Cordova Community Food Hub, a new space dedicated to supporting families and strengthening the community through access to food and services.

We’re grateful to join local leaders, partners, and community members in celebrating investments that help families thrive and create healthier, more connected neighborhoods.

In case you missed it: Our Golden Gala celebrated 50 years of impact and the future still ahead for children, families, and child care providers across our community.

Because of the incredible support of our community, sponsors, and partners, we raised nearly $190,000 to support children, families, and child care providers across our region, including $20,000 for Child Action's Child Care Provider Funding Program.

As we reflect on the past 50 years, we’re also looking ahead to the future and the impact we can continue to make together.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors and partners for helping make this milestone celebration possible:

More than 4,300 children in Sacramento County are currently waiting for access to subsidized child care.

In a new Sacramento Business Journal article, our CEO Adonai Mack discusses how the region’s child care shortage is impacting families, workforce participation, and the broader economy.

“Child care really is infrastructure,” Adonai shared. “When you invest in infrastructure, you get a return on your investment significantly.”

The article highlights findings from our latest Impact Report, including the growing gap between child care demand, provider availability, and funding, and how that impacts families, businesses, and Sacramento’s future.
